I recently have published a few feature services with edit tracking enabled. As far as I can tell, there is no way to "revert back", undo, etc. Granted, at this point I am the only one editing, but this doesn't seem like versioning to me. In addition, the only option for "filtering" edits is by the day? This doesn't seem to be that useful as I would like to see who changed what today, rather than waiting (and not editing for a day) a day to see the differences. Is this the extent of edit tracking in AGOL? Does Portal for ArcGIS Server differ in any way as I would then have control of the backend storage/DB? Thanks, Spencer

So I am re-opening this post to ask if there has been any development on higher resolution of ArcGISDynamicServiceLayer past 2048X2048 - we have some users with 30" monitors now and that resolution is 2560X1600. No idea anyone?

No. My service is not cached. FYI, I have the progress bar showing on the screen as well. When the windows is "stretched" to the point where the layer doesn't show, it appears that it is not even trying to draw at all. No progress like when it is on a single screen. Spencer

Morten, Thanks for the quick response. My screen resolution is 1680 X 1050. I can't attach screenshots of the three screens together due to the resolution limitation, but here are the links: http://spencerwilliams.net/files/working.png http://spencerwilliams.net/files/notworking.png This is using the 2.1 newest release (I upgraded from RC due to your response). Again, this only happens with ArcGISDynamicServiceLayer....not any other type of layer - graphics, feature, etc. It does it as soon as I go past a certain point - not sure if that is 2048X2048 though, but it might be. let me know what you think. -Spencer

I just discovered something that may be a bug and I was wondering if someone else (on the ESRI side of things) could verify it for me. I have 2 monitors and have been playing with "stretching" the IE window that contains our Silverlight application to get more screen real estate. Whenever I am displaying an ArcGISDynamicServiceLayer (as one does with data overlays in our app) - once the screen is stretched past a certain point on to the other screen (about 2.5 inches in my case with my resolution) - the layer will not appear! Very strange because it doesn't happen with feature layers, tiled layers or graphics layers (that I can tell). Also, it will span two screens, just not very much of the second one before disappearing. Can anyone confirm this behavior and tell me if it is expected? Thanks, Spencer Williams Forestar Group, Inc. Aliases are coming from an external DB table that I am using to populate a menu with projects. A project is selected and then added as a feature layer to the map. We also do this with external overlays (data from various sources) all information about the layer is stored in a database, along with the URL that points to the service: http://raustpsw0792/ArcGIS/rest/services/100YearFloodPlain/MapServer So we will be storing an abstract, date gathered, user that added it to the repository, date of data in the layer, etc in an external DB that ties to a web application that allows users to upload data for a GIS resource to add into ArcGIS server as a layer. So I will have a data structure for each layer in the application already - but I want to have a way to bind it (somehow) to the layer data that the legend uses as soon as it is displayed on the map - that way I don't hard code aliases in the app. Thanks for the quick response 🙂 -Spencer

Hello, I am currently working on getting a very large project built using the Silverlight API to fit into MVVM with the Prism Framework. I like the easy of use (I can see you are using viewModel constructs as well) of the new Legend feature and the databinding. I think this question will apply to many people that want to use the legend in 2.1 as the legend they use going forward. (Althought I spent a lot of time tweaking the SharpGIS legend to suit my needs 😞 ). The question: What would be the best way (with MVVM in mind) to "inject" aliases for layers into the legend? IE: "WORLD_TRANSPORTATION" becomes "Streets Overlay" One of the main issues I have with binding to the actual name of the layer is that we use the name of the layer for identification elsewhere (identifying a project in an external database by numeric ID). Should I create my own layer class? Should I use a data template? (doesn't seem to be too much info on what the legend control supports) Something else? Because this ties to ArcGIS server services now, I really want to use it going forward in my application. My guess is that it will tie to other things later (printing anyone?) 🙂 . Thanks, Spencer Williams Forestar Group, Inc.

I'm seeing this behavior too. Has anyone else noticed it? Or, Spencer, if you were able to figure out a workaround, would you be willing to share what you came up with? Thanks! Brooks You aren't going to like my workaround - and to be fair, I did not choose this based on the clusterer not working with edit layers. I am using MapIT's SDS to serve up the data, my own code to do the storage (writes) to the DB, and a heavily modified version of morten's "edit" code (in the gallery) to handle the on screen editing. It was the right thing to do in our situation. Spencer

Thanks Morten, I was playing around with that sample and got it to a place where I think I will be able a custom toolbar for our application over here. That being said, the next step is to customize the feature data form. As it stands right now, our users will want to enter in long descriptions for point data and polygon data. As far as I know it looks like you can only set a global "textbox" size on the form using the properties that it comes with. What I am thinking I will do is to build my own form (keying off of the field names or sizes to create textboxes of a good size/with a scrollbar etc) and then have an apply button that will loop through the controls, add those back to the attributes, and call Save.Execute. Do you have any better idea to go about it? Thanks, Spencer

Hello, I was wondering if it would be possible for ESRI's Silverlight/WPF team to post the code that is used to create the editor widget. My company's application will definitely use editing, but will probably need to be customized to fit our specific needs. By posting the code that retrieves the icons/etc. it would help me to not have to recreated the wheel to add a spoke - sort of speak. Is this possible? Thanks, -Spencer

after some testing i have determined the following - if a flare clusterer is utilized on the featurelayer where edits are present, you cannot reposition items. Please let me know if this is by design or a bug. Thanks, Spencer

ok, so I figured it out - the 2.0 version that was released in May broke on FeatureDataForm.GraphicsSource as it changed from GraphicsCollection to Graphic - when I changed it to (sender as featurelayer).Graphics[0], it worked because I have an edit already created in the layer. This breaks however, when there are no graphics in the feature layer. How are you supposed to set graphicsSource without graphics? Do you wait until there are graphics in the featureservice, and then set the graphicsSource to a graphic in the featureService? That seems odd.

I have a feature service that was working in the initial beta (Feb. I think) for 2.0 - I disabled the ability to use the feature service (ie editing) due to some issues with the data form in the initial beta. After about 200 code check-in's - something is preventing it from working fully. As far as I can tell, everything works except when you try and reposition an edit. It looks like it trys to move it, but then it "sticks". I am able to click and drag multiple times and move the edit over a landmark after around 10 click+drags - when I revisit the application after closing it (to check to see if the edit "took") I find that the edit never moved at all - or at least wasn't saved as such. I have also tried using the service in the example to see if it was a problem with my featureservice on the arcGIS server, but it has the same behavior there as well. Has anyone from esri seen this behavior using the new edit features? I removed all click events from the map and page, but that didnt seem to help. Thanks, Spencer

Ok the identify task is definitely the way to go. However, because the layer that I am clicking on (I know it's the map that handles the click, but anyway) doesn't support Graphics - how do I create a map tip for the data that is returned? The data is a graphic itself - the only way I can think to do it is: clear graphics in a tempLayer create a graphic where their mouse is in the tempLayer then identifyTask_ExecuteCompleted fires and adds the maptip to the only graphic that is in that tempLayer (the one that I just added) and every mouse pause (.5 seconds) does this again and again while an overlay layer is present is that the approach?
