I agree that the instruction here over simplify the process! I just started using Aptana 3 and am working on getting the code assist work for both google map api and the ArcGIS JS API. Any tips?

You are talking about web application development with .net api, right? I think ESRI only provides ArcPy for Geoprocessing.

The clip tool does this to me often as well. I think this happens because the raster cells would not perfectly align with your polygon boundaries (it is likely the line goes through the middle or partly through cells of the raster). Therefore, when the rasters overlap, I believe the clip tool will discard those cells that go past the boundary. An ugly solution would be have the polygons slightly overlapping (by a tolerance of at least the cell size of the raster). So if your cell size is 10 meters, you could just buffer all your polygons by 10 m (or 20 to be safe) so that whenever you run the clip tool, since the polygons will slightly overlap there *should* be no missing values between the rasters after the clip is done since they will slightly overlap themselves. I'm willing to bet that someone else out there has a better solution. If so I would be interested in the workflow. This should do it though. If using Photoshop, I will get exactly what I want. The Clip tool itself can be the problem. I tried to trace the cell boundary at a scale close to 1:5 to create a boundary polygon and use that to clip a raster. It didn't cut the way as expected. Allowing a buffer of overlap seems to be a workaround for now.

Using the Raster processing Clip tool, I have clipped two TIF rasters. NoData dotted strips are found in between. The rasters prior to being clipped have data in these areas. See screenshot for an overview. Has anyone have inside regarding this issue? Thanks for viewing.

I authored the tool in straight Python...You can see the source code if you right click on the script tool and hit Edit. Or you can open up the ClipRasters.py script. Most of the tools I used are ArcGIS tools that can be done in ModelBuilder with the exception of the SearchCursor. That is only available in arcpy. Got it thanks. I figure this can't be done through ModelBuilder. Those logic and loopings need to be done with ArcPy.

Hi Harry, Try the attached script tool. I just modified the one I made a few weeks ago to add the extra steps you wanted. I saved it as a 10.0 toolbox so it should work for you. That is awesome! I hope others will find it useful! Did you build it witp ArcPy or ModelBuilder, as I can't open it as a model?

The challenge is to 1) Clip all the rasters in a folder with a polygon shapefiles -rasters will be selected based on a field called tileName in the shapefile that contains all the raster names, e.g. 1955_30_146.tif; 2) Apply symbology from a saved layer file(.lyr); 3) Save the clipped rasters and export them to kmz files. See below for supporting info if you would like to jump in to tackle the issue: Background info: a. A folder contains all the GeoTIFs - scanned and georeferenced air photos rasters. b. A manually created polygon shapefile - outlining the areas and removing overlapping. c. The attribute table of the polygon shapefile has all file names of the GeoTIFs( "tileName=1955_30_146.tif"). d. Software: ArcGIS Desktop 10, Arcview License with Spatial Analysis Extension. Here how it works in ArcMap for a single process: 1. In ArcMap, select a polygon in the shapefile and use that to clip a related raster from a folder -the shapefile has a field call tilename which lists the names of all the TIF rasters -so the tilename field is used to determine an input raster 2. The clipped raster will be added to the table of content; as its colour range have changed, the image becomes brighter! 4. Apply sympology to the raster from a saved layer files (.lyr) so that the colour matches that prior to that being clipped. -save the raster with the new symbology? 5. Export raster to a KML file. Can a model be built with ModelBuilder to allow user to feed the data with a folder(TIF raster files), a polygon shapefile, and a layer files(apply same symbology to all rasters), and output locations? Once this done, I imagine it will be possible to export the model to a python script which can be scheduled to run with window's task scheduler, for example. It is an extended task to the answer from this post. Feel free to ask where I didn't make myself understood. Your help will be appreciated.

Forum, Thank you in advanced. First let me say that I have been away for a while and I use to be able to do this on a regular basis. What I am trying to do is build a simple model (10.1) to build a GDB, Create a Mosaic dataset, and add rasters to this dataset. I need it to be flexible and user defined and I can't remember how to add the user defined variables? I want the tool to run starting by 1. Creating the File GDB, user to fill in name and location 2. after the GDB is created (I have a precondition on the GDB for this) Create the Mosaic Dataset 3. While creating the Mosaic Dataset user defines the name, coordinate system, and any other variables desired 4. Then add rasters to the Mosaic Dataset, build pyramids, calculate statistics, build overviews and complete. Should be easy enough but my mind is drawing a blank, so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve Hi Steve, For goal #1, here are the two steps (or abc): 1). Right-click on the Create File GDB on the model layout (a) and select Make Variable > From Parameter(b) where you will find the things you are after: File GDB Location and File GDB Name 2). Then right-click on these parameters one by one and select Model Parameter(That's the magic touch lead to pop up for user to give a name and assign a location when the model is being run. For the rest, Create Mosaic Dataset and Add Rasters to Mosaic Dataset, you can follow the same procedures (abc). Hope you find this useful.

Hi I am interested in creating a model with buffer tool . My requirement is to provide the distance by the user at the time of executing the model. It means that it should ask for the DISTANCE for the user to enter. So that I can give different values each time i run the model. Thanks Thillai Here are the steps: 1. Create a model 2. Drag the Butter (Analysis) tool to the model 3. Provide an input feature/shapefile to be buffered, where to save it and rename them if necessary... 4. Right-clicking the Buffer tool and select Make Variable > From Parameters > Distance 5. Distance parameter will be created, right-click on it and select Model Parameter (that's the magic touch!) 6. Save it and close it 7. Open it from where you have saved to and it will ask you for a distance Hope this helps!

Use the Dissolve tool. For future reference, when you run the Buffer tool, there are options to choose whether you want the output buffers dissolved or not. Right it's available for the Buffer tool not the Merge or Union tool. Thanks Dale!

Thanks............ These videos seem to be very helpful. But have you created any parameter for start date and end date? If you could guide me in that regard. It sounds like you are looking for the for loop, e.g. for it meets a condition such as date range then run.... I guess you can give the details of your needs so that others can jump in to help.

GIS: ArcGIS 10 - ArcView License + Spatial Analysis extension Have created a simple model like so: input polygon data/shapefile > select field1="A" > buffer that for 30 metters > output a shapefile (see screenshot). With Editor in ArcMap, those polygons can be selected and hit merge to one polygon. I've tried to Select all these polygons and use the Merge tool again in the model but it didn't work. Where shall I go from here to solve the puzzle? Thanks.
