Our solution was to create a Feature To Point layer and use this as the selecting features.

Hi all, I have a model and the output of one branch is the abutting parcels of a polygon, excepting the input layer. In the model, everything starts with the inline variable, %Layer%. Everything is fine and dandy until we come to Select by Location(is identical to, change selection), and I am unable to use %Layer% as a selecting feature. It seems like everything just stops here even though the model says completed, a ok. Is there another solution or a way to make this tool work the way it should?

We are facing this issue now. All final products are set as parameters and to add to display. This includes two tables and one layer, a buffer. Nothing is added to the project.

Who knows of a way to constrain layout objects to each other. Say I have a text box and as the text changes and the box gets smaller or larger, a second abutting text box moves with the edge of the first text box. Constrain text box 2 to the right side of text box 1. to get really fancy can we constrain a group item to another item? ( @jcarlson don't tell me arcpy.mp is the answer XD )

Tim, As the lyr points to the data, does that mean changes to the feature class would be reflected in the lyr or would a new lyr need to be generated?

I don't think you did share anything but I plan to get into arcpy.mp more and soon. I am creating products that show a parcel's location in the county and the full county extent must be visible. When I select a feature from the parcel layer the map jumps around and parts of the county get cut off. I realized a work around that kind of works for me as I am not handling many "clients" at once.

I'm not marking this as a solution just because I don't know how to implement it to verify it as a solution.

My workaround is specific to my needs, of displaying particular parcel data in our county. While I explore ArcPy.mp, I am nesting the map-series index-layer in a corner. I have a second, static map frame which at the extent I want. The down side is the user has to go into another map frame, add the layer, change the symbology. It's not automated but it removes clerical errors and I hope a little easier on the non-gis user who will have to take this over when I leave, soon.

You have suggested arcpy.mp before. I thought the Map Series was the way to go but I suppose I will have to embrace arcpy.mp. It's pretty daunting.

Similar to another question I have asked. How to preserve the extent of a map series. I want to show my full region at the same extent for each iteration of parcels (each page) but the region keeps hopping around. Manually adjusting does not affect anything, it defaults to the original extent of that page.

I am running 2.8 and using Spatial Map Series to automate map elements, title, descriptive info. The information I need is from one layer, the subject is a different layer. I have tried to export at a manual extent; activate the layout and drag, but the result is the default extent of that page. This can result in the subject being off in a corner or some other less than ideal location. Question: How to export a manual spatial map series extent?

Josh thanks for the reply, I thought I had replied already. I have explored arcpy.mp and I am definitely watching the related sessions at the UC this week. If I can't figure it out think we will stick to a less than beautiful table that at least gets all the data on the page efficiently.

I am working with a tax parcel layer. I must display 5 fields; owner name, address, acreage, district, map, parcel and parcel extension. One owner may have multiple parcels. Information must be displayed on one map. Do not repeat owner name, address. Display sum of acreage. My problem is that I can only query one row at a time and so I have three maps for one individual who owns three abutting parcels. I am obv trying to automate what was previously manually entered info. Here's a template of what it looks like. Box one: Owner Name Box three: Address District: # Map: # Parcel: #.# Box two: (repeat above for # of rows) Acres:
