This would be very helpful for adoption of AGOL. I need an environment where I can customize the look, feel, and available tools, but where the users dont have to re-create their maps every time they log in. There are other programs that allow this, so I am struggling with getting the users to switch to AGOL! Map Viewer is overwhelming and doesnt have the same "feel". Lets make this available from EB!

Hi, I feel like I must be missing something. I am using a lot of public layers (USGS, HIFLD, etc), many of which the URL will periodically go out of date and change. I need a way to update the URL. There seems to be some tools created that are supposed to help with this, but I can't get them to work. Here are my steps: 1) the layers have been added as layers in "My Organization" and therefore have an organization URL (https://mycompany.maps.arcgis.com/) I have tried: 2) click on the service and directly update the URL in the settings. Outcome: this updates the URL, but when I look at the maps that are using the layer they all still have an error that says the layer cant be loaded. And: 3) I tried to delete the organizational URL and re-created it. 4) with either 2 or 3 above, I then tried to open one of the maps where the layers were unavailable and went to "Settings" to attempt to use the “Update References” tool. In both cases, I hit the button and the dropdown doesn’t show anything. It finds no problem layers? Am I using the tool incorrectly? Is there some sort of setting that I need to set somewhere for this to work? My preference would be to change it in one place and have it change for the whole site (as in #2). My users have created hundreds of webmaps using these layers. I cannot go in and click on every single webmap and fix them. How do I do this? Does the GeoJobe application work for this? Is there a way to do it with REST or Python? Should I be setting the layers up in a different way? Thank you for your help! Lisa

Hi Graham, Sorry, I didn't get notified of your ask back in April! The answer is no, I have not found an answer. I actually created a C# (ArcPro API) script that does what I need but would prefer it to be in a tool that the less-tech-savvy can understand. I am on the search again and saw this post! Let me know if you found a solution.

Hi Emily, I know it has been a while on this, were you able to find a fix? I am having the same trouble and my users are getting confused. I would prefer to turn the legend action completely off rather than to have it not trigger the actions correctly. Do you know if there is a way to turn it off? The only viable work around I can think of is to create a custom webApp dashboard, but that will take a long time and has its own quirks. Please let me know if you have any pointers! If ESRI reads this...please fix this bug! It is very confusing for the users of the program

Has anyone found a solution to this? In my case, we were running low on user licenses so I deleted a user that had never logged into her account. So, she had never even set up her password. Now that we have purchased more licenses I want to re-instate the account with the same username. It is a unique username, so I doubt anyone else grabbed it.

Hi, I am trying to use the New Map Viewer for the company rollout of AGOL. I need to set up functional areas for users to click into and view all of the maps related to that topic. The best way to do this is with Hub. However, Hub does not seem to open New Map Viewer maps (when selecting a group for Gallery content). It attempts to revert to the old map viewer. My work arounds are to 1) revert to the old Sites instead of using Hub. 2) create a tile separately for each map and copy the URL into the href. I also need to copy an image URL for the tile. #2 is going to be pretty cumbersome but #1 is not ideal, either. I found this question: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-hub-questions/set-a-default-map-viewer/m-p/1170177#M5224, which is similar to my question. From what I am gathering, the answer is that it will be available September 2021. Since it is now May 2022 I am just wondering if I am doing something wrong?

Hi Patrick, was this ever released? My company is new to AGOL and I am preparing an adoption/rollout strategy. Instead of rolling it out with Classic and then going back to train on the New Viewer, it makes sense to move forward with the New. However, the easiest thing for new users is to have content available on the Home Page. I am using Hub as a way to organize functional areas with galleries. If I add a map to a Hub gallery, it tries to open in Classic and I get an error about some of the features not working with Classic. This is not good for new users!! I can manually create tiles within Hub that work, but that will become tedious.

Thank you for replying so quickly! I am really hoping to get this working. I have not used the Assistant and cannot figure out how to change the runtime. When I click on the link you have above and I sign in, I can see my notebook. However, when I click on it the item details show but I only see the options to "View Item JSON", "View Item Resources", "Copy Item", and "Open in ArcGIS Online" (see attached screenshot). I can't seem to open the Notebook in the assistant? If I choose to open in AGOL, it takes a long time to redirect and open but, indeed, opens directly in AGOL with all of the same selections that AGOL has (It looks like I am running Python 3 for advanced 6). I do not see anywhere to change the runtime. Can you help me to find it? Im not sure if it matters, but the notebook is not currently shared.

I am following this tutorial: https://www.esriuk.com/en-gb/news/we-talk-tech/printing-custom-layouts-from-arcgis-online. My goal is to print an AGOL map with a custom template. We do not have Enterprise, only an Organizational AGOL account. When going through the tutorial, everything appears to be working well: the code finds the APX and the layout, finds the title of the layout, etc. However, as soon as I try to use the "exportToPDF" function I get a wine error and the kernal dies. I am not new to programming, but am new to Notebooks and have not done a lot of Python (although I have used "exportToPDF in the past). Am I missing an import or something?

I am having problems with these solutions. I have a KMZ that I need to open in ArcGIS Online. AGOL will only open KML. If I change the KMZ to ZIP and then import the KML, I get a message that there is "an issue". When doing a search on that, it is because the KML needs to be converted to UTF-8. This is just steps upon steps upon steps. Is there not an easier way to open a KMZ in AGOL?? I hesitate to tell my users to complete all of these steps. It will be very simple to them...they won't use AGOL.

Hi Thomas, I see that you say you figured this out, but it isn't working for me. I would like to publish a tool for my GIS Analysts to use on ANY project. I have set my output name to: %scratchGDB%\myName. When I run the tool I get an error that the featureclass cannot be created. If I change the output to: myGDBname.gdb\myName the tool is successful. I would like it to detect the geodatabase that is set to default in the project where I am running the tool, without having to manually go in and set it. Is this possible?

As a follow-up to this, I was able to point my portal to use the geocoder in my AGOL account. It uses credits, but is the best way to do it because the lat/lng values are world-wide. I was then able to use the Data Aggregator widget, which works great! it allows my user to upload his csv, it finds duplicates, and then you can chose to download the lists of duplicates, the list of problem locations, and the list of ready-to-upload. Great tool! If you can't use the data aggregator, I think Josh Carlson has the best explanation.

I just took this exam and failed it. I will try to take it again later this week now that I know what to study. I studied the lesson plans extensively before taking the exam and I dont think they prepared me at all!! You do not need to know Python, you need to know which Python commands to use for admin. There were a lot of questions on the different servers and roles, ie: GeoEvent Server, GeoAnalytics Server, etc. I know the basic installation, but my company doesnt have the need for these extensions so I need to study those. There were also questions on Cloud installations and Linux. Hopefully this helps to guide some people so that they know what to study! Truthfully, by looking at the lesson plans I thought I had this one in the bag! A bit deceiving...

Hi, I would like to completely disable the mobile popup from my Enterprise Portal WAB apps. I can do this in my development environment by following what you say here, and other places, and edit the MapManager.js file to this.isMobileInfoWindow = true; as well as resize(). However, when i try to make those changes in Portal I see that the MapManager.js file is minified! This is making it hard for me to correctly change the resetInfoWindow function. I have added ";this.map.infoWindow.resize(300,200); at the end of the function and have also tried adding "this.isMobileInfoWindow=!0" in various places. It seems to have no effect. In looking at the chrome dev tool, I do not even see where MapManager is being used and so I cannot inspect it. Any ideas on how to change Portal to NEVER use the mobile popup? The mobile popup does not show actions, which causes a problem. If there is a way to add actions to the mobile popup that could be another solution...
