Hi, I have been doing the ESRI Managing Lidar Data Using Terrain Datasets and have tried to generate a Slope from the Terrain feature.
The Terrain feature is Projected with Projected Coordinate System:
NAD_1983_2011_StatePlane_California_VI_FIPS_0406_Ft_US
Projection: Lambert_Conformal_Conic
False_Easting: 6561666.66666667
False_Northing: 1640416.66666667
Central_Meridian: -116.25000000
Standard_Parallel_1: 32.78333333
Standard_Parallel_2: 33.88333333
Latitude_Of_Origin: 32.16666667
Linear Unit: Foot_US (0.304801
Geographic Coordinate System: GCS_NAD_1983_2011 Datum: D_NAD_1983_2011 Prime Meridian: 0 Angular Unit: Degree
When I run the Slope tool the results seem to be in Metres not the Mapunit of feet. The Raster DEM has Vertical coords set to feet.
If I use the conversion value from the tool help 3.28084 in the Z value it changes the legend to match the figures in the practical. The Units window in the tool, listed has optional has meter and will not let me reset it.
Anyone have an idea why Slope is not using the Vertical Map units?
Cheers and thanks.

Hi, I have a simple file where I want to reclassify the values but I want to keep the other attribute fields. Is there an easy way to do this?
When I use the Reclassify tool it produces an output raster which only has three fields ObjectID, Value, and Count. It has not brought through to the final raster attribute table other attribute fields. For example if I reclass image one the output loses the Featcode and ClassificA fields.
Reclass value field to 1,2,3,4,5 output only has three fields.
Is there any easy way to keep additional fields at time of reclassification in the new output raster attribute table?
I know I can do a Join with table values post creation but this is a kludge solution.
Any and all suggestions welcome.
Jeff

Thanks, I was thinking cell value not raster layer. My shotgun approach to exploring ESRI tools has lead me to a solution to my problem. I export each Vector by classification [five classes for my data], rasterise each independently and add them together using Cell Statistics with MIN overlay statistics and I get what I need. The lowest value at each junction being selected. Again thanks to everyone for helpful suggestions. Cheers Jeff

Thanks Dan, having a look at the majority filter. Just as an aside as you seem deeply knowledgeable. Can you explain the Lowest Position example from ESRI help? I thought I understand the text but the graphical example does not make sense to me. The text indicates it used the lowest value of the rasters but the example does not. Also are they treating 0 as a value as it does not seem to carry though to the outras. For example if in lower left corner, the three input values are 4,3,1 surely the outras cell value for that location should be 1 not 3. Similarly in second row, third cell the outras is 2 but the three inras values are 2,1,3. Is this an ESRI help error or do I just not understand what the tool should be doing. Thanks again for your continued help!!!

Looking at this as an option but it does become complicated with more layers. Also looking at varying the cell size and the Lowest Position tool. Thanks, Jeff

Hi, I have a road feature class. I want to change the vector lines to raster values. Is there any easy way to specify cell value by preference at junctions?. For example, Road type A with Road B at a T junction. Some times it chooses to make the cell Road Value A some time Road Value B. Two junctions below. Western junction takes value of Brown. The Eastern junction takes value of Green. For my use I want the cell to always take A value at junctions of A/B .
I am using Arcmap 10.6.1. Raster cell size is 1m.

Hi, yes tried destinations as raster points using both tools CostPath and CP with Polyline and same problem. The good news is we put the SA patch you suggested on and it now works without memory error and now multi destination paths work with Costpath tool but not with Costpath with Polyline. So we can do costpath with old tool but not the new. ESRI UK are working on the issue. Thanks for all your help!! Jeff

Hi have asked about the SA patch and am awaiting word. Also tried the converting of the points from Vector to Raster and it does the same hang up with memory error message. Cheers, Jeff

Thanks for all your help. ESRI UK have been out to our site a number of times to try and address some 'issues' we have on our network and we will feed back to them. As you indicate it may be a site specific issue with our IT. Hopefully when we move to 10.7.1 in the next months some of these problems will disappear. Then we can start our planing regards ArcPro. Best wishes, Jeff Chartrand

Dear Jim, Tried to run the costpath tool with 4 destinations and a completely different data set. Using same steps, but result is an error message as attached to original message. It seems to freeze up for about 6 to 15 mins and then return an error message about memory. Our machines are Dell Precision 5910 with Intel Xeon CPU E-5-1620v3@3.5GHz 32 GB ram Windows 10 Cheers Jeff

Dear Jim, Okay please find attached a file geodatabase containing: Hovercraft_base [single point vector feature - origin] Travel_points [point vector feature with two points - destination] Cost_surface_water [raster layer with two conditions - 1 or 3 [impedance layer] Step 1: Run Cost Path to produce Cost surface from point of origin, and corresponding backlink Step 2: Run Cost Path or Cost Path as Polyline Input Raster or feature destination: Travel Points [no selection of points or both points selected] Input cost distance raster: CostDist [product of Step1] Input cost backlink raster: Cost_surface_water_blk [product of Step1] Output Raster: CostPath Path Type: Each_Cell Set Environment Processing Extent to same as Cost_surface_water Ok Environment settings Ok to Cost Path Settings Okay now it ran for raster output to both points [the other day neither worked so unsure why it worked today]. Repeat the same process for Cost_path to Poly and it produces only one line to second point in destination file. Can not figure how to add file to this message so added to original. Cheers Jeff Chartrand

Dear Jim, We are still on 10.6.1 for next month or two at least. Then moving to 10.7.1. I assume that the geometry is correct as it will work if I use a single destination or if I use a single destination selected in a feature file. The files are all in gdb so the geometry is being updated with any changes. My understanding is that Euclidean distance with barriers works with a homogeneous surface not with a heterogeneous impedance or friction surface. My cost surface treats each cell to a impedance or friction value. This layer is being done in Projected coordinates British National Grid using OSGB36 and is in metres. Cheers Jeff

Thanks Jim. I had hopes that given the help file data on direction and horizontal and vertical factors that this might have been addressed. When sorted would make a good tutorial or practical. Jeff

Hi read the blog but still seem to be struggling with the process. I am trying to use wind direction and speed as an friction cost, sometimes in direction of movement, sometimes from side direction, and also in opposition to direction of movement. The blog does not make clear how you generate a raster incorperating the direction and strength of wind. Given a raster layer I assume it could be incorporated into the standard friction surface calculation or as a Horizontal factor. Do you have to produce two raster surfaces, one for direction, and one for wind strength?
