I'm not the OP but I'm interested in this topic. I did everything he did and it is not displaying for me either. I changed the attributes to "Top" and "Left" (I copied the values from another widget that I know works) and it is not being displayed for me either. Is there an easier way to load shapefiles into flex besides this?

Hi, To set up the extent you may use this link:http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapps/flexviewer/extenthelper/flexviewer_extenthelper.html top - The vertical distance in pixels from the top edge of the map to the top edge of the application. The default is 0 pixels, but 40 is a best practice when using the HeaderController widget since it typically covers the top 40 pixels. You may read further about this on: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapps/flexviewer/help/index.html#//01m300000018000000 I hope this helps. Thanks, Adnan That was extremely helpful, Adnan. Thank you!

Hello. I've been recently tasked to create an online map of our database. Unfortunately, I have never had any experience web-mapping anything and am having to teach myself the basics as I go. I imagine I'll haunt this forum for quite sometime but, for now, I have a simple question. I am trying to set up an initial extent and the example given is for an extent around Australia: <map initialextent="12042000 -5619000 17795000 -952000" top="40"> My question is: Can someone please define these coordinates? I've sort of worked out that they are Xmax, Xmin, Ymax, Ymin, but what coordinate system is it and is there an easy way to convert them from lat long. Also, what is "Top=40?" Sorry for the very basic questions but any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I called ESRI last week about this issue and it took some time, but we finally got it to work. Here is how: Go to start menu, click on default programs, click "set program access and computer defaults." You will see three options; Microsoft Windows, Non-Microsoft, and Custom." Choose Microsoft Windows. That resets all your internet settings and browsers to default IE and now you can use ArcMap tools again. On a side note, I have to say how worried I am that ArcMap 10 is being tied into the most buggy, virus-ridden internet software on the market today. I much rather prefer a stand alone program than any that would is dependent on a program that hackers eat for breakfast.

I have been having this issue for a week now. When I open toolbox and click on append (or any other tool) I get redirected to a help file with the tool description but not the actual tool. I was using it just fine 2 weeks ago. I updated ArcMap 10 to the most current SP in the hopes that would help and it has not. Any suggestion would be very appreciated.

Its very strange, this. I have been having problems for the last week. I am trying to append data. When I open toolbox, and click on append, it hyperlinks me to an internet description of what append does but does not open the actual tool. I used it just fine two weeks ago. I tried to open other tools and got the same results. Any assistance would be really appreciated. My boss is becoming very irate. Corey
