Hello I am writing a python script, in which one component is to generate a .sddraft file using the geoprocessing function "arcpy.mapping.CreateMapSDDraft". I will then update parameters for this sddraft file using minodom to parse a tiling scheme xml file and update the sddraft file with caching status and levels. I would then like to use the "Calculate Cache Size" utility (part of the service editor window in ArcMap) and input the new sddraft file (which now has all caching info included) to estimate cache size for that sddraft. So keeping in mind that the sddraft file includes the source for the tiles (the MXD) plus all of the cache levels you want to build. Is there some way to run the Calculate Cache Size utility using arcpy? Cheers Carma Gerber

Thanks William. That's great, thank-you. I have used that functionality which is a great way to control the area cached. However it's not exactly what I am referring to. There are 2 components to my issue. Component 1: In the "Update Map Server Cache (Server)" tool, some functionality has changed in new releases of the software. Historically, if I was caching a large geographical area and wanted to break the process down into small areas, there was the option to use a feature class (like a grid for example) with multiple features, that contained a status complete field and the caching would be performed independently for the geographical area of each feature in the feature class. At an advanced level, this caching process for these areas could be farmed out to separate server instances, or VMs, thus ensuring a much faster caching process. Here is the link to the depreciated tool: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#//00540000000r000000 New tool that doesn't have this functionality. Here is the link to the new tool: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//00540000000p000000 Component 2: The second issue is that I would rather actually use the "Manage Tile Cache (Data Management)" tool to build my cache from an MXD, rather than a service. A common workflow of caching locally from an MXD and then copying the cached files into the server "\arcgisserver\directories\arcgiscache" folder is better for me at the moment. So the question is, if we can utilise the functionality I have detailed above using the Server caching tool, can we do the same using the "Manage Tile Cache (Data Management)" tool in "Data Management"? Perhaps this functionality still exists in Arcpy somewhere? Look forward to hearing your thoughts. Regards, Carma Gerber

Hello I am trying to find the "Build by Feature Class" component of the caching tools for 10.2, however can't seem to find it. Has this been replaced by something else? Regards, Carma Gerber

Thanks Matt, I've just realised this is the Help document I have been reading for the past few days. I have used it to work out how to update the cache status of an .sddraft however it doesn't go further in updating the tiling scheme which is now what I need to do. Thanks for the response! In order to enable/disable capabilities, you have to use Python to modify the XML structure of the .sddraft. There are examples here: http://resourcesdev.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/CreateMapSDDraft/00s30000006q000000/ Look at Modify SDDraft example 3 and 4. Hi Jeff I am currently trying to access this link however it's not working at the moment. I am also trying to modify an .sddraft file and would like to use an xml tile cache schema file to update the caching details of the .sddraft. Would you have an updated url? Many thanks in advance, Regards, Carma

Thanks Raymond! I'm currently working my way through the video tutorials which I am finding very helpful. I will also make myself familiar with the help document as you have suggested. I'm very much a beginner with CityEngine and look forward to getting to know it! Regards, Carma Gerber

Hello I am looking to create a 3D interior model. When I start City Engine I click through the wizard and end up with a city template. Is there any way I can start with a blank canvas and add a layer (i.d. a CAD layer)? Many thanks

Hi Dan I am doing a similar thing here. Publishing a map service containing imagery and building cached tiles. These will then be transferred to a hosted environment and the service will be replicated there. I have an MXD containing image data. Some TIFF files and a mosaic also. I have image service extension enabled. I have a folder on my hard drive called "Imagery" within which the TIFF and mosaic data all resides (within a number of sub folders). I have registered "Imagery" folder with my AGS however still get the warning that data will be copied to the server. Any idea what I am doing wrong here? Carma

Hi Gregory, That worked perfectly! I removed the feature service form the map, published the app, configured it and just added my flickr photos and now it's running perfectly. Thanks again for the help! Carma Gerber

Hello I am currently making a Story Map using the Map Tour template. I have imported photos from Flikr and made certain changes. Each time clicking the SAVE button, however when I exit the editing environment of the map application and open the application, the changes are not saved. Here is the link to the app: http://esriaudemo01.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapTour/index.html?appid=d2815eb3b9724e0a940bd46c10aa885f&webmap=88ef0af60fd14618b87b874a7f84077e Flikr account: carmagerber I also tried to add pictures to each feature in the feature service used (each map point) using images I had loaded as an item in AGOL, however they didn't save either. IT seems to forget them? Loving the way this template looks! I am giving a lecture and using this instead of powerpoint. Carma

Great! Thanks for this. So if this is the case, our next step is to create a custom locator style (in desktop) so that we can map linear assets against a general single field locator. Once we create this custom locator, we can publish this as a service, add into AGOL and then it will be available for users to map assets from Excel. Thanks again for the heads up! Carma

Hi Katy I am currently using this functionality in Esri Maps for Office, creating my own locator by using a feature class on AGOL as my reference data so that I can map excel data against existing features. This is an excellent function and it's really impressed some of our clients. Am I correct in assuming that the current locators available in Esri Maps for Office are based on the current locator styles that are provided out of the box in Desktop? This would be why the General Single Field locator can only map polygon or point data (as per locator style General - Single Field locator style)? We have linear features (utility network) that we would like to map based on an asset ID field from Esri Maps for Office. So if this is the case, our next step is to create a custom locator style (in desktop) so that we can map linear assets against a general single field locator. Once we create this custom locator, we can publish this as a service, add into AGOL and then it will be available for users to map assets from Excel? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and getting confirmation that this is how the out of the box locators in EMfO and EMfSP are built. Regards, Carma Gerber

Hello Not sure if you have had an answer on this. At the moment, locators in EMfO are the same as the out of the box locators in desktop. You can map streets but you have to use the Esri standard locator styles. This means that if you are trying to map linear data against a single field it cant be done. I am currently working on getting some answers on using custom locator STYLES in Esri Maps for Office. This would mean geocoding against your own geocoding service where you can leverage your own locator style. Carma

Hello All, We are implementing Workflow Manager and would like to use the ???Each Workflow Manager user will connect with their own database login??? option for database access. Would anyone know if this is likely to cause any issue for users using the Workflow Manager for Server web app that don???t have database access but need to perform non-database tasks within the workflow? Look forward to hearing back. Carma
