Using ArcMap 10.0, I created a simple point .mxd and published it to the server. The service is running and gives no errors. But when I add the service layer to the config.xml of ArcGIS Viewer for Flex it doesn't show up. I investigated the ArcGIS/rest/services of the MapSever Layer and when clicking the "All Layers and Tables" it is empty. Could this be my problem? Why did I not get any error messages when publishing and why can I see the data and tables in the .mxd? Any help would be great.

Benjamin, Are you sure you are editing the XML file that your locate widget is pointing to based on the url in the main config.xml? Example: <widget label="Find an address" left="100" top="90" preload="open"
icon="assets/images/i_target.png"
config="widgets/Locate/LocateWidget.xml"
url="widgets/Locate/LocateWidget.swf"/> Robert, I have solved the issue by using an already-made locator. Thanks anyway for taking the time!

I can understand I have you confused and you'll have to bear with me as I dont know what could've gone wrong. So, I changed the url to :http://arcgisprd/ArcGIS/rest/services/geocoder/GeocodeServer, which is the geocoders (that I made) url. Seems though doesn't matter what I change it too...I keep getting the same error.

Benjamin, What does your full LocateWidget xml look like?
<?xmlversion="1.0" ?>
<configurationlabel="U.S. Geocoding">
<locator>http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Street_Map/MapServer</locator>
<minscore>30</minscore>
<zoomscale>2000</zoomscale>
</configuration>

All, I turn to this forum to hopefully find some advice in the following: The address locator has been giving an error (see below). I have built a new address locator and published it... I have tried several possible solutions in the config and have been searching all over the place for trouble-shooting. But unsuccessful. It says its unable to connect to the locator service (http://myserver/ArcGIS/rest/services/geocoder/GeocodeServer). Any help would be a big relief and if you need more info just let me know. Cheers! (I'm using the compiled version of 2.5 (I am also migrating to 3.0 which works fine!).

For sure. Thanks for the feed back, I was thinking that was the cause, and sure enough. Right after I posted the thread, I double-checked my tables and found the culprit. Thanks for your effort. Nothing like an error message to sink your teeth into.... Check your table; somewhere in there I bet you have a null value or an empty value or something along those lines.

Hi All- Hopefully someone could shed some light on the error message I've been getting. See the attached screen shot. The file is a standard .csv on the companies' server and I imported it as a personal geodb tbl into a personal geodb (also on the server). I've been able to geocode other ones like it, but this one gives me half way through the error: "Generic Server Error Message". Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks, Benjamin

This example & guidance is all I needed. I will be adding more layers based on this example. Thanks Robert, just needed a 'push' in the right direction. I'm glad I can now use your widget.

Robert, Sorry to be unclear. I am interested in adding a layer such as http://gisserv.phila.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/GSG_CityDetailed/CityBaseMap_Parcels/MapServer/0 and have my staff be able to query the STNAM or PARCEL.

Thanks, Yeah I got that one. I'm sure its my inexperience, but I cant make it work to add my own layer and have it query that. Just a basic streets layer from ArcGIS: http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Street_Map/MapServer Cant find the proper expressions/values/prompts to insert, to make it work. Just started on this widget so I'm clueless as to what needs to be done. Benjamin

Hi, I have been searching all over the forums, trying to find proper step-by-step instructions to modify the .xml of the eSearch widget. Does someone know where I can find this? I am specifically looking to add my own customized layers and queries. It's not as straight forward as I thought! Great widget by the way! Any help would be great. Thanks, Benjamin

Hi, Simple question: I'm using this code in my flex viewer config file: <layer label="Streets" type="tiled" visible="true" icon="assets/images/basemap_Streets.gif" url="http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Street_Map/MapServer"/> But the streets map in the application is not showing. My own layers (4 of them) do show. Any suggestions? Thanks!
