ArcGIS Server 10.3.1 MapServer/export => Response for multilayer service returns base64 string in "imageData:blah blah blah". However, response for single layer service returns "href:path to virtual directory/filename.png". What is going on here? The documentation indicates that the property "useMapImage=true" which forces the exported image to be written to disk like ArcIMS was deprecated in version 2.0 of the JS API, but I am still seeing images materialize in the "arcgisoutput" directory on the server when calling a single layer MapServer/export. Does anyone know why behavior is different between single layer and multilayer map service? Update - Sorry, I forgot to clarify that the GET/POST call is made to specifically return json using "f=json"...

Hello Everyone, I can't seem to get ArcGIS Server to register a .sde, direct connection to an Oracle database in a domain that's not the same as the one my ArcGIS server is a member. This .sde connection works fine within ArcCatalog, but no-worky from ArcGIS Server - Is this the same kind of issue with ArcGIS Server security not being able to query active directory outside its own domain (that is a known issue)? I was told/emailed by support that this issue with Active Directory would be solved with Service Pack 2 - well, it's time for that bit of software to hit the street - any thoughts, ESRI? Frustrated...

I work with a large development team at a global oil company here in Houston and we're wanting some guidance from the Javascript API gang there at ESRI and any others out there doing innovative stuff. We're wondering if there's anyway to trick ArcGIS Server Javascript API into thinking a WCF service is a valid TableDataSource? From everything we've read it seems that every datasource has to come from a registered geodatabase, file geodatabase or shapefile - is this really true or can we think outside the box and get it done? Any recommended practices or tips would be greatly welcomed.

Prior to 10.1 we could use AddInstance.exe to create multiple web instances. Is the equivalent now accomplished by installing multiple Web Adaptors?

Yep - they apparently stepped on the existing code base because the javascript code gallery doesn't work today either...

Thanks for the reply Brandon...did you actually render point features using the dojox.charting API? If so, how would you go about initializing the PIE symbol if you did a simple point feature query like: ================================================================================ var map,simpleMarkerSymbol,pieSymbol, resultTemplate; function init() { blah, blah, blah.... //initialize symbology for SimpleMarkerSymbol PIE SYMBOL simpleMarkerSymbol = new esri.symbol.SimpleMarkerSymbol().setColor(new dojo.Color([0,0,255])); //initialize symbology for PIE SYMBOL pieSymbol = new ???? .Symbol().setSomething(XXXX); //initialize & execute query var queryTask = new esri.tasks.QueryTask("http://service_with_point_data/MapServer/0"); var query = new esri.tasks.Query(); query.where = "1 = 1"; query.outSpatialReference = {wkid:102100}; query.returnGeometry = true; query.outFields = ["*"]; queryTask.execute(query, addPointsToMap); //info template for points returned resultTemplate = new esri.InfoTemplate("Point Data", "<tr><td>${POINT_ID}</tr></td>"); } //add points to map and set their symbology + info template function addPointsToMap(featureSet) { dojo.forEach(featureSet.features,function(feature){ map.graphics.add(feature.setSymbol(pieSymbol ).setInfoTemplate(resultTemplate)); });}

Has anyone attempted creating custom symbols yet? (Not simple marker symbols using a raster image, but vector graphics)

Thanks Sunil - I'm aware of the InfoWindow, but that's not what I want. I know that I can publish a service using ArcGIS Desktop's that renders point features with pie symbols and scales the size based on the sum of the constituents, but I want pie symbol that I have full control over calculating the radius. Based on what I've read, i'ts going to require creating a custom symbol using the dojox.gfx API and esri.namespace methods. Has anyone tried doing any custom symbols using this approach?

John, Your right, there's a difference in the builds numbers...my ArcGIS Desktop binaries have 3035 and my ArcGIS Server binaries have 2945. Please confirm that both ArcGIS Desktop/SDK and ArcGIS Server should have build number 3035. I need to know ASAP so I can get my IT department to re-download the binaries... Regards, Troy
