Hi Dan, thank you yes. In hindsight I should have done that from the start. It appears @RobClark3 has already done that. Here is the link to that Idea for anyone who stumbles upon it here. Vote it up!

Yes exactly 👍, I posted here on this exact same topic in the ArcGIS Questions space. Should have looked here first for this topic. Anyway this definitely should be added to a future release and seems like a quick win win for everyone in my opinion. Also, as I pointed out in the comments on the above thread you can also use the Create Database Connection tool in the Toolbox to do this, but we should also be able to do this from the context menu when we right click a folder.

Hi Dan, thanks for your reply. Yes I am aware I can do this like I said by creating a connection in my project then coping it to this location I want, but it is kind of annoying since this is a couple extra steps. It is much easier to do this in ArcCatalog (one right click to create) vs ArcGIS Pro (3 clicks - one to create, one to copy, one to paste). I am also aware there is a geoprocessing tool (Create Database Connection) in ArcGIS Pro (AGP) just as there was in ArcCatalog. I am just saying if the functionality is there why doesn't Esri make it available in multiple ways? Why make things harder? Perhaps that is because the Esri roadmap is to move everyone to Branch Versioning so editors don't need to make database connections. However administrators still need to make connections to manage database schemas etc. and in my organization we store our connections in a location all admins have access to, rather than store secured connections locally on their computer device (in their AGP project) which would be a less secure approach I would argue. So I don't get why ArcGIS Pro can't do the simple things ArcCatalog can do, especially when the functionality is still very relevant. In my opinion software should provide multiple ways to do things, and this context menu functionality is not a big ask. I just find it a little annoying that functionality like this is removed and it makes it harder for people to migrate to the new software in my opinion. Personally I think Esri could have done a better job making it easy to transition to AGP, and this is just one of the multitude of examples.

Mind you we are using an older version of Pro (2.9.3 currently) so I am not sure if this has been improved upon, but I doubt it since I could not find any other mention of this in the Community. With ArcCatalog you can browse to a folder and create and new database connection there. With ArcGIS Pro that is not an option. I can create File Geodatabases or Mobile Geodatabases, but there is not a new Database Connection option like there is in good old ArcCatalog. Instead I have to create a connection in my Project then copy it to this location I want. That is more steps and I don't know why this was never implemented in ArcGIS Pro but I think this is a justifiable ask to add this to the context menu as shown in the attached screenshots. This would make working with the software much more user friendly in my opinion. If there is a reason why Esri chose not to add this functionality to the context menu I would like to hear what that is. Otherwise why not implement this handy option? Thanks for reading and considering this!

I miss this capability as well. I used to commonly add .zip, .csv, and .pdf files among others so I could easily tell what content was available for a project. This was a super handy ArcCatalog feature and I think it would greatly enhance the experience in ArcGIS Pro. Don't know how 9 years into this software this is still not a feature. Please add this!

Wow, I can't believe this wasn't a feature from day 1 of the release which was 9 years ago this month! This feature absolutely should be added. I thought I was going crazy because I could not find Pro projects that I thought were in a specific directory, and then I open Windows File Explorer and they were right there all along but Pro wasn't showing them. 🙄 Also I also miss the ability ArcCatalog had to add other file types so they show up in the view, so I also recommend voting on this idea. Esri please, please, please don't keep us waiting for this necessary feature!

This is one of those annoying ArcGIS Pro behaviors we experience on our GIS team it would be nice to get this resolved. I check the registry settings suggested and my settings are good there (not set to 0). We are are all on Window 10 Pro (22H2) PCs and Laptops. Here are my findings: Are you using Pro on a physical machine, a VM, or either a physical/VM through RDP? Physical machine, both a laptop and a desktop PC with ArcGIS Pro installed, the desktop sometimes accessed via RDP but not always. What version of Pro are you using & encountering this problem with? Currently using version 2.9.5 but recall experiencing this on all previous versions. Is this machine being used in a multi-monitor setup? If so: Desktop – 2+ monitors Laptop – laptop screen and second monitor but can replicate issue this using just the laptop without a second monitor. Yes - Pro steals focus whether I am working in the main monitor where it is opening or if I am working in a secondary monitor, (i.e. steals focus from the application in my main monitor even if focus on an application in the secondary). Both How many monitors? Does focus shift when Pro opens on your Main monitor (it should open there by default) and you're working within an application on a secondary/tertiary monitor; when Pro opens on your Main monitor and you're working within an application also on the Main monitor; or both? Does this issue only occur while Pro is launching in Full Screen mode, in Windowed mode, or both modes? Seems to happen in full screen mode and windowed mode, but occasionally in windowed mode the task bar icon will just flash like it should and it does not steal focus. This is intermittent and I can’t find a pattern to this behavior. Does this issue only occur while you're launching Pro standalone (i.e. searching for ArcGIS Pro in Start & launching it/double-clicking on the 'ArcGIS Pro' shortcut on your Desktop or Task Bar), when you're launching Pro via Opening a Project/aprx file, or both? Every way I launch it steals focus. Occurs when switching projects from the start screen, launching from the Start Menu, or when opening the .aprx file from Windows Explorer. Do you have any custom configurations or admin settings that load while ArcGIS Pro is launching? If so, do any of these configurations modify the Home page that displays after Pro launches? No custom configurations or admin settings For reference, Manage Application Settings: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/get-started/application-setting-management.htm Do you have any custom Add-Ins installed? No custom Add-ins installed Are there any observations you've made that don't fall into any of the questions above? If so, please include them. Focus stealing happened as Pro starts to open initially then if focus shifts to another application Pro steals focus again a second time when the project is fully opened up. The focus stealing is somewhat intermittent but happens most of the time, perhaps less often if I last opened in window mode. When using dual monitors, it doesn’t seem to matter which start menu I choose (on either monitor – my display settings are set to extend the displays).

Our organization is still in the transition phase towards full adoption of ArcGIS Pro as a replacement of ArcMap/ArcCatalog. Part of that transition mean we must update our procedure docs for administration tasks using ArcGIS Pro, but I just realized the functionality to manage map services is completely missing. At first I thought maybe I needed to find what I needed in a contextual tab as opposed to a right click context menu, but when I couldn't find it an internet search led me here, to my dismay and disappointment. In my opinion this is ABSOLUTELY a necessary improvement needed for ArcGIS Pro. This is one of those major road blocks that will force people back to using ArcGIS Catalog. If Esri really wants people to transition to ArcGIS Pro they ABSOLUTELY NEED to make sure the software does what ArcCatalog can already do, not just add new bells and whistles that only 1% of user will ever touch. I am tasked with leading the transition to ArcGIS Pro at my organization and shortcomings in the software like this only make my job more difficult and the full adoption slower. I don't think that using ArcGIS Server Manager is a viable work around as this would take addition time as others have noted and we don't want everyone who might need to restart or stop/stop a map service using this management tool. Voting up all three of these ideas and inviting my coworkers/collogues to do the same.

Hi Stefanie, Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately that doesn't appear to be the issue we are experiencing. Our City account owns and is the only member of our Open Data group and that is also the account that owns the items.

Hello, Similar to Kevin and Stefanie, we have also been noticing our searchable items in Hub (open data) seem not to be indexing correctly, or the index keeps overwriting. This is exactly the same problem Kevin detailed above when he said: "If I go and touch the item in arcgis.com (edit a field and push save)...it instantly becomes searchable in the hub site again." We have the same situation here. If I go in and modify the item (e.g. un-share and re-share OR remove the tag and add the tag back) the item get's re-indexed and becomes available via the search but until I do this users cannot find these items shared with our open data group and tagged appropriately. This only seems to happen on some of our items. So for example if a user searches for Wastewater layers they may get 10 results, when really they should have like 18 results. https://data-roseville.opendata.arcgis.com/search?tags=wastewater So while Wastewater Main come up in the search:https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=b0985cd06bfe45a6877f68a7bf294ec6 others like Wastewater Abandoned Point do not come up: https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=562d208c28334f24ae50b840b1d2a51c The other ids for our wastewater layers that need re-indexing include: Wastewater Manhole: 8ebdf9221cb442d391a4f0fce53b8810 Wastewater service line: 4a7466c870a841469c555e349dbbcaeb Wastewater Private Main: 8a3f094f2ccb41ac8d49548eca9e9c35 Wastewater System Valve:71abc616f5c64c6083eb870ec11bfeb4 Wastewater Basin: 6fa923b0f79f47d98ef56c05aad521bd Wastewater Cleanout: 9fc52206745742739e307e33150d4206 All items are shared publicly and tagged the same, and I can find absolutely no differences between the details of items that come back in the search vs. those that don't. Even if I go in and make the changes so they all show up in the search, I know they will disappear again as I have done this a few times in the last year or so it is kind of frustrating. Any advice on how we can correct this problem would be most appreciated. Thanks, Brad Findlay

Based on this documentation it sounds like this option is for cached map services and image services (if you have the image server extension) NOT dynamic map services as it talks about reference to tiles. With a dynamic map service you are not pre-generating tiles.

Hi Rupert, Thanks for the detailed explanation of view counts! Do you happen to know if certain apps register the view counts the same as new ones, or if there is some sort of time requirement for the app to be viewed before counting as a view? Another possibility I suppose might be that the browser cache prevents the view being recorded, I don't know. The reason I ask is we have a number of apps we check daily to make sure they are up and running but when we check view statistics at the end of the month some of the apps only reports a handful of views so somehow the daily checks must not be registering, and perhaps other usage too. We use these statistics to help us decide when to retire an application that is getting low usage so the concern is AGOL may not be reporting the usage correctly or somehow my daily checks are not counting as views. Thanks in advance, Brad

Hi Robert, and thanks for your reply and suggestion. Yes for me this happens without using any transparency on the raster. I tried your suggestion of lowering the DPI (I went to 150 DPI) but this did not have any improvement in what I am seeing. The envelop border of the .sid image layout still shows up in the PDF layout (partially) and the print (completely) and while the PDF with the sde image doesn't show any border I still get the black envelope in the print unfortunately.

I am experiencing an issue with ArcGIS Pro and it doesn't seem specific to a version as I have reproduced it with both ArcGIS Pro 2.5 and 2.7. When creating maps with an aerial photo backdrop (not an Esri basemap in this case) then exporting to PDF the result looks great and comparable to one produced in ArcMap 10.4.1. However when I print both maps the one created in ArcGIS Pro displays an solid rectangular black box representing the image envelope that becomes visible in print (see attached). I tried a number of things to try and fix this, including a quick test with a simple image in map frame and switching the raster image from a 10.4.1 sde geodatabase to a .sid image to see if this might be due to Pro having trouble reading from our admittedly older geodatbase. The .sid gives a slightly different result (hollow black envelop box) and it is also somewhat visible in the PDF too as I have pointed out in the attached images. I should mention I have found that if I check the output as image button in the Export dialog this seems to solve it and the envelop goes away which is great, but this is only a workaround as there may be cases where we need to keep the PDF layers intact, text searchable etc. Also it seems there are a lot of people commenting on another thread related to transparent images producing lines in the PDF which is not the issue I am having for some reason. I get the same result whether or not my aerial image is set to transparent. My current export settings are below, but I have tried a lot of different combinations and I was curious if anyone else is having these issues and/or knows how to fix this. File type: PDF Compression: JPG Quality: Default 80% Compress Vector Graphics: checked Resolution: 300dpi Raster Resample: 1:3 (Normal) Layers and attributes: PDF Layers Only Color Management: Embed color profile checked
