Thanks for the response. I was following that linked help file before and is what I was referencing in my initial post when I said 'from what I've read'. I go down to Properties and I don't see any options for Find Locations. I only see 3 things under Application Settings: Routing, Measure Tool, and Basemap Selector. If I am understanding the help file and responses above, I should see an option to enable Find Locations or Search...which I don't.

I don't see what you are describing in my map. I'm using Streets as the default basemap. There is a Search function along the top (top right) which has text within it that says "Find address or place". I just don't see anything that would allow me to search the features I've added to the map from our ArcGIS web server.

I've published a service and added it to a Web Map in ArcGIS Online. When I Edit the map and scroll down to Properties/Application Settings, only Routing, Measure Tool, and Basemap Selector are available (and checked). From what I've read, I should see an option to enable Search here. I check the Service Editor (in ArcMap) and Query is checked under Capabilities/Mapping. Am I missing something?

What is the best way to share SDE Features when the SQL database they reside in is behind a firewall? I have 2 feature classes in an SDE geodatabase that resides on a server. I want to add those features to a map and publish it to a PMF file so that other users can open it with ArcReader. Basically, I need to get the features from the SDE file mirrored, shared, or served (whatever works) to a location where those outside of the server firewall can access it. If I publish the map now, they just see the features in the TOC with a red exclamation point indicating they can't access the data.

I'm still learning so this might be simple...seems like it should be. I have a SQL Enterprise Geodatabase (sde) that has 2 feature classes that I want to share. I have added those features to a map (mxd) along with several other features. I then "publish" this to a PMF file on the lan. Now, I'd like users to open the PMF file and see all the features but the 2 features from the sde database have red exclamation marks next to them and are grayed out. I assume this means those users don't have 'read' rights to that database. So, I was thinking I could somehow push the features from the sde database to the server as a service and then add them to an mxd from the service...and then they would be available to the users as they have 'read' rights to that server. Make sense??? I guess what I'm asking is this: Using ArcGIS for Server and the Publisher extension....how do I create a PMF (published map file) with features from an Enterprise Geodatabase that users who only have read access to the server can see the features?

I think we might be close. The Enterprise gdb is a SQL db. The IT person that is helping created a new SQL table in that gdb and connected it to the Oracle db. I can see the SQL table in ArcCatalog and am able to Geocode it selecting the Dynamic option. For the test, we populated the table with 60 records then geocoded it. We then added 14 additional records. Now trying to figure out how to get those to automatically geocode. I think what you said before regarding creating a relationship class is what I need to do to accomplish this. I'll see what I can accomplish on that end but I'm still a little concerned that this isn't the 'preferred' method to do this. If this fails I will try to convince IT to 'enable geocoding' on the Oracle db. Thanks for all the help, I really do appreciate it.

I think IT 'mirrored' the customer database (Oracle) in a SQL table within my Enterprise Geodatabase (sde). I can see the data as a table within my main Enterprise Geodatabase now and they have populated it with 60 sample records. The intent is to fully populate it once we have it working, then just update nightly any changes. That's the theory. The reality is I'm stuck at getting it geocoded. I tried to dynamically geocode and was informed I had to register the table. So, I go to the table, right-click and select Register and get this error: I'm not sure if this is something that can be corrected or maybe the manner in which we are trying to do this (mirroring the Oracle in SQL) is not going to work. Any ideas?

Using the Telecom Editing tools and opening a workspace generates the following error (and log): This is on a co-workers client running Standard 10.1. On my client pc (Advanced 10.1) I do not get this error. The client pc is able to edit the features without issues but this error makes me wonder what's going on. Any ideas? Thanks

Thank you, that is very helpful. I'll talk to our IT folks and see what we can accomplish. One more question (and maybe it will become obvious) but how do I get the customers in the Oracle db to show up as points in a map? I'm used to just geocoding addresses from a table, would this be the same or will I have to incorporate some sort of X/Y coordinate field to the Oracle db? Thanks again, I really appreciate the response.

Our organization recently upgraded to ArcGIS for Server. In the past, I maintained 3 important feature classes (2 point features and 1 polyine feature) in a File Geodatabase. Now that we have Server, I have moved 2 of the feature classes from the file gdb to a SQL Enterprise database (sde) so that I can edit and maintain those 2 features. The remaining feature is our Customer list. The mast customer list has been and still is maintained in an Oracle database. That data was periodically exported and then imported into the File Geodatabase and geocoded in order to show the customer locations on a map. I don't maintain the customer database. However, I do still need to show the locations on maps. With Server, I am thining I should be able to connect to the Oracle Database and then add that data to the map that way. What I don't know is just how to go about this... Does the Oracle db get a spatial component added to it? Or, is there a feature added to the SQL Enterprise db and then connected to a common field in the Oracle db? i am very new to Server, Oracle, and SQL so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm just trying to first get a feel for the general way this should work....then figure out the how-to's of it. Thanks!

I still don't know why it wouldn't work the way I was trying but I figured out a solution. I was able to bring the table into ArcMap, then export it to another table, then use that table with the "Table To Domain" tool. That worked....glad it's Friday :-0
