Hey SteveLynch, just had a situation where I tried to generate contours with extent env manager on raster mosaic dataset, same problem (lots of little segments). Then I used copy raster with extent env on the mosaic dataset, then just standard contour tool (no extent needed) on the copy raster and contours worked fine. This is was a simple work around and not a big deal. Previous testing just hadn't been as conclusive. I am now on latest version of ArcGIS now (2.9.2) was either on 2.9.0 or 2.9.1 before.

Hey Steve, thanks for the response. For some additional detail: Initially I was trying to run an arcpy command that generates contours based on map view extent on a mosaic dataset. However sometimes the issue seemed to persist beyond that and occur on standard raster DEMs and using the standard gp tool ui. To play it safe I restarted my computer, and am making a copy of the raster extent from the mosaic dataset before running the contour command. This seems to solve the problem. I think running contours directly on a mosaic dataset can lead to inconsistent results but I could be wrong.

Previously running a contour tool I would get nice continuous polylines output. Now I am getting zillions of line segments with 10-30 vertices each. My work around has been to use unsplit lines to rejoin them into continuous polylines, which works but is a little annoying extra step. I thought it had something to do with the size of the raster being too large. Now I've done a contour at a single value (using contour list) on a fairly modest extent (~1x1 mile) and it produced a contour made of 4,000 features. Any ideas why this is happening?

Yeah I was using Select Layer By Attribute. The FC is in a GDB. I'm on 2.9 now but I also ran into a while ago probably around 2.5. I don't think it was due to editing as I had restarted the application and the computer. Perhaps it is partly from having ArcCatalog open simultaneously though. My work around was just to generally avoid using Select Layer By Attribute. Many gp tools allow the "where_clause" that removes the need to use select layer by attribute. It was also affecting my trace network output--I had been copying the selection result of a trace and with this bug it would copy the entire network. But now I learned of the "Trace_Results_Aggregated_Lines" parameter so that fixed it. Since it persisted after restarting, another thought is it has to do with the code. Maybe the behavior can change if you call for the FC from its full directory (thus creating another layer instance?) or as its name alias from the map contents (thus referencing your current layer).

I've run into this bug a few times over the years. Select by attributes on Feature will return Feature_layer1 with the selection on it. The original Feature layer will not have a selection. Has anyone else ran into this? In the past it sort of just went away on its own, but I've restarted, created a new project etc and it is still happening. tags: SelectLayerByAttribute, bug, duplicates layer

I'm late to the party but this thread was helpful to me, so thanks Elizabeth for making the post. I modified your script ever so slightly and it ran just fine for me. Here is the snippit that I used: import arcpy, os, sys relpath = r'''F:\0 - Ranking All Unknowns\insetmaps''' aprx = arcpy.mp.ArcGISProject("CURRENT") for item in aprx.listLayouts(): itemname = item.name print(itemname) l = aprx.listLayouts()[5] print(l.name) ms = l.mapSeries for pageNum in range(1, ms.pageCount + 1): ms.currentPageNumber = pageNum pagename = ms.pageRow.Invnum print("{}".format(pagename)) filename = pagename + ".png" print(filename) endlocation = os.path.join(relpath, filename) print(endlocation) l.exportToPNG(endlocation)

I believe that I was able to solve my problem by creating a copy of the corrupt aprx file changing it to a .zip viewing its contents and deleting GISProject.xml. then change back to aprx i could open it again after it arcgis rebuilt a little since at that time it recognized the file to be corrupt. Some more finagling may be needed but at least I was able to recover my work.

I added a join to the feature class I was using as an index for a map series. There were a number of dynamic text items etc. They all lost their values. I thought maybe if I closed and reopened it, it would refresh and work. It could not reopen, so the file is basically corrupt. I saved a version before adding the join. However when I opened that I stupidly hit the "Load more recent version button" which I think just loaded the same corruption problem basically. Any advice would be appreciated as I've lost a days worth of work. I learned you can make a copy and turn the aprx file to zip to explore its contents but it seems unlikely I'll be able to recover aspects of the file without deleting the major folders at this point.

Can you set a new spatial reference when merging raster tiles or should you use their existing spatial reference and then use the project raster tool. I've done it both ways and it seems to work either way but I want to know what the best practice is. Obviously if there was no risk to doing both the new raster and new spatial reference simultaneously that would save some time.

The documentation for LegendElement is pretty sparse for ArcGIS pro compared to 10.x documentation. Notably missing is the listLegendItemLayers or removeItem methods that would allow you to edit display of layers in the legend via ArcPy. Are these ArcPy methods non-existent in ArcGIS Pro or am I missing something? Reason why I am trying to do this is that I encountered a bug where legend items are displaying in my final exported layout but not in the actual layout view, so I wanted to try to investigate that a little further to determine if I can find a solution via ArcPy with manual commands.

ArcGIS pro file paths seem to be made up and not exist in Catalog half the time. I can't seem to track down the directory path for my map to run a remove layer command on it. So I have to use Windows explorer and navigate to the project folder. Seems like Catalog on ArcGIS pro was a downgrade from 10.3+ All I am trying to do is remove a layer RemoveLayer—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop but it seems to be much more difficult in ArcGIS Pro than 10.3

Using light cyan as the default selection color for all the widgets is a limiting factor. At the very least there should be documentation for how to change it in WAB for Developers until they implement a fix for WAB.

Hey Dylan, thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately I am not getting any more information about the process from the history tab. Its kind of sad that my computer's fan speed could be telling me more information about what is going on the with process than ArcGIS pro itself. At least in Desktop we had a breakdown of the processes and could monitor if any errors were appearing.
