First, Active Directory or the full SAML piece? It sounds like the full SAML piece if you're talking about Windows groups.> Settings > Logins you have to set up the SAML configuration. Then, in the Group, you have to enter the group identifier that you've chosen to use in AD (name, GUID, etc). And of course, the Windows pieces have to be setup in AD first. We've done straight AD without SAML before, we're on SAML for logins now and we're about to implement SAML for groups (tests are successful). Abe.

Great question and great observation! I'll have to revisit my project, but you're probably spot on - I was probably just saving the project which one would think would also save the notebook. Thanks!!! Abe.

I get the same error when trying to add an item to my Portal, as per the documentation. gis_saml.content.add(item_properties = {"type": "Feature Collection","title" : "US Hurricane Data","tags": "Hurricanes, Natural Disasters, USA","description" : "Aggregated USA Hurricane Data for 2020","commentsEnabled" : False}) I'm working from Pro 10.9.1 (Python environment cloned and updated) to Enterprise 10.9.1. As I'm new to the API I presumed I'm doing something wrong..., but possibly there's more to this issue?

Hi folks, This ESRI documentation page states “We can work with Enterprise Sites using the sites property of the GIS object”. Specifically, I’m trying to create a site using the API – here’s the code from that page. portal_site = gis_portal.sites.add('Portal Python Site', subdomain='site-in-python-new') However, I’m getting the error: AttributeError: 'GIS' object has no attribute 'sites' I’ve cloned my python environment and updated all modules…, but still no success. I’m doing this from Pro 10.9.1 to ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1. I’d love to learn why this isn’t working. Thanks! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Guess you were way to advanced for the rest of us..., no replies, but that was 5 years ago. Have you managed to do what you were attempting to do? I'm trying to create sites via the API so would be eager to get some guidance - I can access sites, but I keep on getting the error that 'GIS does not have a module sites'. Odd!

Did you ever manage to get a site created via the API? Was it in Enterprise or Online? I'm trying to do mine in Enterprise. I'd be keen on sharing notes (although you started a year ago, so maybe I'd just be accessing notes!).

I had a similar issue last week. The notebook was actually saving but not showing when I re-opened the project - I could see the notebook file in Windows Explorer, but it wouldn't open in Pro, it simply created a new notebook each time. As I was running it on a server machine (our go-to machine for heavy processing) I thought that possibly it was a permissions issue that I had to discuss with IT. As yet, I haven't done that. I could open the notebook directly by clicking on the file in Windows Explorer - this would open the notebook in either the browser (via the notebook server) or in VSCode. I'm on 10.9.1, both Pro and Enterprise.

Thanks Laura. I understand ESRI wanting to 'market' their products, but these aren't items like apps, maps or data..., they are tools that can be accessed to make use of the data and more. I would suggest, if the executive requires them to maintain it, that a separate access point, much like the app widget in the header would be a better location. As long as it is separate from our data items. Have a great 2024!

Thought I'd share this with everyone. Feel free to vote it up. We'd prefer to display our staff name (Abe Coughlin) instead of our username (Abe_COE). It avoids a minor security risk (half the key username/password pair) plus lends credibility through real names. The option to display 'username' or User Name' on ... - Esri Community

As security becomes more pressing, it is important to keep user login details secure. ArcGIS Online, along with ArcGIS Enterprise, display the user's username on an item's details page. This may appear minor, however, sharing of usernames can be an additional risk to security, but also if the username is crytpic it does not promote confidence in the end-user that the data is credible, regardless if it is being sourced from a specific agency's site. Possibly providing agencies the option to show username (Abe_COE) or user Name (Abe Coughlin), maybe even with other details that an organization might like to share (e.g. position: GIS Manager). I recognize that there might be the argument that sharing names is also an additional risk to security, or at least sharing of private information, however most of our names and positions at our organizations are publicly accessible.

Just an FYI..., if you don't have your ports configured, you get the same response. Essentially, Pro can't communicate with Server, nor Portal. We experienced this when implementing 10.9.1 and we had to roll the VM back to an earlier image - the ports weren't open on the firewall at that point and thus we had to add the firewall port rules again on the machine.

FYI - I've just received the same message within a new install of ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1. I had just published a simple enterprise database dataset via ArcGIS Pro 2.9.9. I had published both a map and feature layer referencing the database dataset. I had shared it to a specific group only. On viewing the items in Portal I noticed they hadn't been shared, so I selected both and went to share it, and that is when I received the message. A key oddity with this is that it is ArcGIS Enterprise, not AGO, thus 'public' vs 'subscription' accounts don't appear to be relevant. Exploration of the issue: My user belonged to the group I was sharing to, but just as a Member. When I set my user to be a group Manager and retried, I had the same problem. My user is a modified 'Administrator' role, without xxxx. When I set my user to be the full 'Administrator' role OR the 'Publisher' role OR a modified 'Publisher' role and retried, I had success. Reviewing the permissions for the modified 'Administrator' role, I saw in the Sharing section that I had not allowed 'Share with Portal' - allowing this and retrying resulted in success. Note that I had not allowed 'Share with portal' as I had already allowed the 'Share with groups', the option above it - I believed that the permission to share with groups would allow me to share with the portal (surely one cannot happen without the other?). Summary Statements It appears some remnants/components of AGO exist within the Enterprise implementation (in this the oddly worded warning message above). Permissions for roles are not inclusive, i.e. checking one permission does not necessarily include the other permission even if logically it should (yes, my logic!). Recommendation - change the order of the permissions - put 'Share with portal' above 'Share with groups', and possibly link 'Share with groups' with 'Share with portal' - I cannot think of a reason why you could share with a group but not the Portal.

@GregHeintz1 My apologies - cleanups are necessary..., but sometimes they go awry. I've updated the link in the post but FYI the URL is https://arcg.is/1byD5W0. I've also uploaded the spreadsheet. Abe.
