The final revised version of MapSAR for ArcGIS 10.1 is now avaialble for download from: http://www.esri.com/apps/MapSAR/software/index.cfm#top Just submit the request form and choose version 10.1. It contains several new enhancements including the "Make Map" button (my favorite). Training on the increased functionality will take place during the FREE NAPSG webinar on September 14. http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e815v7w25372c4c4&llr=nplxpbdab This will be the last MapSAR update that is compatible with ArcGIS Desktop 10.1. There will be no MapSAR 10.2 versions until a known bug in ArcGIS Desktop 10.2 is fixed..

You can now download MapSAR that runs in version 10.1. After submitting the request form in MapSAR.net you will be given a choice which version to download. There are some very good enhancements included in the 10.1 version. The E-books are being updated to reflect the changes.

It was brought to out attention yesterday that when you install MapSAR on a computer running ArcGIS 10.1, this error message will appear: It was caused by the Add-ins that were compiled to work in version 10.0. A new installation file will be forthcoming soon that will allow MapSAR to work in version 10.1

Now that MapSAR can be used to create accurate maps quickly and get search teams deployed into the field faster, what can we do to help them work in a disconnected environment with spotty radio reception at best? One solution is the use of the Adapx digital pen. You just write on the paper form or map that is attached to the Incident Action Plan. When you return to the Incident Command Post and dock the pen in a USB adaptor, all the data is automatically downloaded to the computer and can be displayed in Excel and on the GIS map. That's it, no training is required by rescue team members to keep track of their search progress. It was used quite extensively to record damage following the 2011 Joplin tornado. There are also some Type II teams in CA that are using it to map wildfires. http://www.fireapparatusmagazine.com...echnology.html Here is a quick demonstration that depicts how easy it is to use: http://www.adapx.com/resources/video...-public-safety You can order a Disaster Response Kit and Adapx will send you everything you need to get started in one Pelican case: http://www.adapx.com/products/captur...-response#tab1
