packaging a map

I am very new to GIS. I am working in my map of all utility and stormwater systems in the City. I have limited the extent of the map to one small area.  I need to send a map package to an engineer. When I create a map package, it is pulling all of the data from the entire attribute table for the entire city and not just the data in the area of my map extent.  The file is 2.6Gb. How do I get it to pull only the data from the area of the map extent and not the whole city so that the file size is manageable.

Angela - I would recommend you use the Package Map geoprocessing tool.  To package only the data in your map extent, change the Extent parameter to "current display extent."  Then only the data in the map extent will be packaged out. Should be much less in file size!
