Where do you work and what is your role?
Hi, I'm Hans, working as a GIS engineer at the local municipality of Växjö, Sweden, soon 100 000 inhabitants and growing fast. The role includes being GIS developer, GIS Architect, GIS advisor, GIS administrator, GIS analyst etc, with tasks ranging from ArcSDE administering and publishing services to ArcGIS Online and the local ArcGIS Portal to network anlysis and developing web maps using Web App Builder Developer edition as well as customizing ArcMap through python addins using both python and FME as a python subprocess. Have some 17 years of professional GIS experience, 7 of these as a GIS consultant/project manager for large GIS projects.
What GIS success have you had this year and what product did you use?
Developing a FME schema to automatically create LOD0, LOD 1, LOD 2 and LOD 2.5 (=not including all details of LOD 3, but LOD 2 plus correct roof structures including correct eaves and larger on-roof structures) from ESPA-mapped roof surfaces, DEM lidar data, 2D-building footprints and the building id point data, and saving these to the SDE with correct relationship info. This has been implemented as ArcMap buttons through python addins.
What is your expertise (GIS related or not), and how can that help the community?
FME and python (arcpy) developer, automizing tasks for the benefit of other GIS users or the inhabitants through e-services.

Where do you work and what is your role?
Hello! My name is Lee. I am a GIS Programmer Analyst at County of Sonoma (Sonoma County, California). I have been here for about 10 years. I worked in the County's Transportation & Public Works Department, as a GIS Technician, until about a year ago, when I was promoted to my current role at our central IT department. Since then, I have moved away from data editing and field data collection, and am now working on programming data processing models in python, developing web applications in ArcGIS Online, providing system admin/database support (managing users, roles/groups, etc.) to our end users, and developing open data websites in ArcGIS Hub.
What GIS success have you had this year and what product did you use? (big or small - no win is out of bounds)
My biggest success this year was building an Open Data site for my former department, Transportation & Public Works. The site acts as a comprehensive inventory of our County-maintained road system, a hub for interactive maps related to County roads, as well as proving information about past and future road paving projects. (Check it out here, if you like.) This project turned out to be very well received, we are now creating open data sites for other topics within our organization (emergency management, zoning and permits, etc.)
What is your expertise (GIS related or not), and how can that help the community?
In terms of subject matter, my background is in civil engineering, specifically in the management of roads and highways, road-related structures (bridges, street lights, etc.), road maintenance management/work order systems, and road pavement management. My GIS work experience includes the following, in chronological order: field mapping using GNSS, digitizing and data editing in ArcGIS, data analysis and reporting, database design and architecture, model building and python programming, and GIS-integrated web development.
How can this help the community? I believe what I have seen: that GIS can be used to vastly improve working processes in government, thereby allowing public agencies to better serve the public good.
Hi Lee Penny, Welcome to GeoNet!

Hello, I am Rahul Pawar working as a GIS Specialist and Hydrographic Data Processor at Saipem in Sharjah, UAE.
I look forward to hearing from - especially those who are working in Oil and Gas Industry with respect to GIS.
Thank you.
What GIS success have you had this year and what product did you use?
I have been using GeoNet community since two years and it really helped me in my day to day work here in Saipem.
What is your expertise (GIS related or not), and how can that help the community?
As I am working in the Hydrographic survey field since last 7 years, I can help the community with my experience in Marine survey data management using GIS.
Welcome to GeoNet Rahul Pawar!
Glad to hear GeoNet has been a resource for you and we're happy to have you as a member. If you haven't done so already, check out the following places related to your interests:

Where do you work and what is your role?
I am the sustainability coordinator at Mountain View College in Dallas, Texas. I am also a PhD student in Urban Planning & Public Policy at the University of Texas at Arlington.
What GIS success have you had this year and what product did you use?
Our college hosts an Early College High School on our campus; in January 2019 I obtained an ESRI K–12 license and launched a GIS Project where students are learning ArcGIS Online by mapping how climate change is affecting our campus and community. They are also using Survey 123 to do litter surveys and are working on simple geolocation storymaps.
What is your expertise (GIS related or not), and how can that help the community?
Personally, I'm still an ArcGIS novice but am determined to become proficient; I want to introduce GIS in the classroom whenever possible and utilize it in my urban planning research. I found an article on crowdsourcing a storymap the other day and definitely want to use that for a city-wide high school project. We'll also be starting on our campus tree inventory in September. So many cool tools, so little time.
