Hello,
I have been reviewing other municipalities to see what type of GIS governance model is being used. There are 3 different models with various pro's and con's that are the most common. For simplicity sake, I'm curious as to the approach others are using and won't delve into the specifics of the pros and cons as I see them.
- Centralized model, a fully established GIS Department with an Enterprise GIS environment that supports the entire organization and it's customers.
- Decentralized model, the organization has multiple departments implementing their own strategies and maintaining data and information for their area of interest with no real single GIS governance.
- Hybrid model, a varying degree of both centralized or decentralized.
I'd like to hear from others as to how their organization is structured.
