(Preplanned) route layer creation/use questions

In terms of creating the preplanned route layer, it seems like the only way to do it is to use the results of a network analysis (optimal route for instance).  I was hoping to just use a line layer (in my case from centerlines) to define the route.  This avoids the tedious process of adding more and more waypoints to force the route to go the way I want it to.  Can you confirm that it has to be a route analysis result (Pro or ArcGIS )?

In terms of using the saved route layer (in my case from ArcGIS ) in Navigator, I would very much like to remove the waypoints from the actual routing - since the routing engine is using the already-created linear route the waypoints aren't needed any more.  They were only put in to force the path to go a certain way, I don't want the drivers to see them or to be bothered by their announcement in routing.    Can this be done?

Pic below, lots of unnecessary (to the driver) waypoints.
