I made custom markers for my ArcGIS Online web map but they won't upload.

Everytime I try to use them I get the message that it can't be loaded, they are 120 x 120 pixels, I tried both .png and .jpeg. I uploaded them on Dropbox and shared it for the public so I could use the link. The browser I use is Google Chrome but I tried Microsoft Edge too.

Am I doing it wrong or is there something I can do to make it work?

Hi Pieter,

It looks like the issue is with the drop box link. The one you shared has a ?dl=0 appended to the end. This isn't a link directly to the image but is a link to the download page. (See this article for the details).

In order to point directly to the image, change the dl=0 to raw=1:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ck3vigzzshlhgv5/bomen_legenda.png?raw=1

If you were to add the image in ArcGIS for Desktop and publish the feature service, the symbology would be copied to ArcGIS Online as part of the feature template.

Additionally, check out this idea on the ideas site, it seems to be similar to the workflow you are using https://community.esri.com/ideas/6835

Hi Pieter,

Can you share your image? How large is the image?

Try using a web browser debugger  like fiddler or developer tools in the browser to see if any errors are returned.

Hello Kelly,

This is the link to the image: Dropbox - bomen_legenda.png. The file is about 4kb and the size of the image is exactly 120 x 120 pixels.

If I check for errors it says 'esriErrorDisplay', I googled it but can't seem to find what is causing it.

If I add my custom markers in ArcGIS Desktop would it be possible to export it to ArcGIS Online that way?

I am still not sure what I am doing wrong. I've tried using AGOL My Content to upload pictures instead of Dropbux but I get an error here as well. Are you supposed to have an organizational account? I'm pretty new to this and I think I'm just doing something completely wrong because uploading a pictures doesn't seem like a hard task. Once again; it's a .png, AGOL supports .png, the file is as small as possible and still it won't work.. pretty frustrating.
