I am attempting to call the buffer function on a geometry service via a soap call in Java. When I do so I am getting the following error:

javax.xml.ws.soap.SOAPFaultException: Unable to instantiate class for xml schema type: SpatialReference
at com.sun.xml.internal.ws.fault.SOAP11Fault.getProtocolException(SOAP11Fault.java:178)
at com.sun.xml.internal.ws.fault.SOAPFaultBuilder.createException(SOAPFaultBuilder.java:111)
at com.sun.xml.internal.ws.client.sei.SyncMethodHandler.invoke(SyncMethodHandler.java:108)
at com.sun.xml.internal.ws.client.sei.SyncMethodHandler.invoke(SyncMethodHandler.java:78)
at com.sun.xml.internal.ws.client.sei.SEIStub.invoke(SEIStub.java:107)
at $Proxy34.buffer(Unknown Source)
...
In my arcgis server logs I see entries for this error as well, which leads me to believe the server is choking on something.
"Unable to instantiate class for xml schema type: SpatialReference"
"Method failed.HRESULT = 0x80043068 : This is a FACILITY_ITF error that is specific to the interface that returned this error. See the documentation of the interface that returned this error for information about this HRESULT."

Any ideas?
