Hallo!

I'm absolute new with ArcReader!

I have some Geo data, created with ArcView, Mapinfo, or anything like this.

Now I must show these maps on Linux.

I am using Ubuntu 10.10

Now I installed ArcReader 10 on this ubuntu (single user mode).

Before starting the installation i got the following info:

                      Part I: Configuration Scan

Collecting system information, please stand by...

Analyzing Operating system...
OS patches............................................................[PASSED]
Product: binutils : SoftwareComp :  : 2.11.93.0.2 : [FAILED]
   Product patches....................................................[N/A]

I installed ArcReader with the following Fatal Errors:

CheckForRegistrationErrors
                          Status: FATAL ERROR
Additional Notes: FATAL ERROR - No successful registry imports found in logfile /home/gerhard/arcgis/arcreader10.0/.Setup/ArcReader_registration.log. Ensure that all system requirements and prerequisites have been met before reinstalling. Please contact ESRI Support for any further assistance.

Exist there any way to fix this problem?
Has anybody experience with the installation on ubuntu?
Exists a step by step manual for the installation on ubuntu?

What can I do?

Thanks for any help!!!!

ArcReader is supported on Red Hat and Suse Linux but not Ubuntu.

Hi,

I ran upon the same error message while installing ArcGIS 10 license manager on Ubuntu 10.04 (I had no problem with 9.3 version on Ubuntu). I realise this post is a bit old, but who knows, it might be of use to someone else.

Here's what I did, but it's a bit risky, please make backups if you want to try it :
- downloaded binutils 2.11.93.02 RPM
- used alien to make DEB from RPM
- uninstalled current version of binutils (dependencies had to be uninstalled too).
- installed instead binutils 2.11.93.02
- proceeded with license manager installation : it went fine, everything ok, ArcGIS working on windows computer with my ubuntu server
- rebooted, keeping my fingers crossed that my server WOULD reboot
- gave a huge sigh of relief
- reinstalled current version of binutils, just out of curiosity
- it still works!!

So I guess you could skip the reboot stage.

Hope this helps...

Official Ubuntu support would be great though! Would ESRI consider it in the future?
