Currently, one cannot drag & drop geospatial data, such as shapefiles, directly into an ArcGIS Pro map from Windows Explorer or ArcCatalog like can be done with ArcMap. Please add Drag & Drop to ArcGIS Pro.
Absolutely! So many useful features of ArcGIS Desktop that are just dropped in "Pro". Pro's don't need that stuff, ESRI?
There's a NIM report for this functionality from a Support Call but I cannot find too many details about it:
NIM101735 : Dragging a shapefile from the Windows Explorer Window and dropping into the ArcGIS Pro application does not add the shapefile to the project.
I may be the odd ball out but they did give the user the ability to add this. I actually prefer this. Let me explain myself with a case scenario. I tend to bring a great number of shapefiles in at a time and I'd prefer them to be in a group when I drop them and they are added to the table of contents. I wrote a 'DropHandler' as noted in the SDK to do just so. If it detects there is one shapefile dropped then it just adds it. If there are more than one it prompts the user if they would like to add it to a group or not. Here is my code. ArcPro_RS_Tools/DropHandler_SHP.cs at master · ChrisStayte/ArcPro_RS_Tools · GitHub
I like this option because it allows the user to choose what they want to do with the data and not have a one stop shop for al users.
What about also dragging and dropping from the Catalog window to different folders in the Catalog window? This isn't functional either.
I'm hearing ArcGIS 2.1 will have the drag and drop functionality that is missing in ArcGIS Pro 2.0.
This used to be one of the defining capabilities of Arc, and they've dropped it in "Pro"?! It should've been the first line of code after "run". I feel this action begins to confirm what I've suspected all along...they're losing touch with their roots, and becoming more/overly concerned with "look and feel". If all I cared about was "look and feel", I'd be using GEP, not 15k software.
Drag and drop was implemented in ArcGIS Pro 2.1.
