It would be nice if we have more options/controls over labeling, such as scale dependency, adding mask/halo around the labels, stacking, etc.
Absolutely agree with CoshCoGIS: Visibility range of labels independent of visibility range of the layer would be very useful!
This functionality was implemented in the September 2016 release of ArcGIS Online. ArcGIS Online now offers the ability to adjust the visibility of labels at different zoom levels. Please see the following documentation for more information about this new functionality:
Part of the idea was implemented but I don't see the ability to stack labels. Very important to our apps that support stacking labels. Can Esri provide an update if stacked labels are in development?
The latest release of ArcGIS Online includes the use of Arcade Expressions for labeling. Although stacking is not supported with the current version of ArcGIS Online, it is something that is being worked on. Check out this documentation for more insight into Arcade: ArcGIS Arcade | ArcGIS for Developers
One issue we have is that our state has many counties, and the LODs available don't work all that well for us. It ends that that most counties have a label, except for one or two. This leads the user to assume we've somehow forgotten to add these, when what's really happening is the labeling engine is turning them off. It would be nice if we have the option to tell the labels to overlap. In Desktop, when we specify labels to overlap, they don't actually look too bad at a comparable scale. At least it wouldn't look like a mistake on our maps.
