It would be great if when working with a feature or shapefile with several attibutes that at one click on the feature that element with the same attiribute dissapears, similar to AutoCAD when you turn on and off a layer.

So, like, by using this new Exclude Others tool, the user clicks on a feature and all other features that don't have matching attributes get thrown into the Excluded OID's list? How do you picture that working at the symbol and table levels?

This sounds like some sort of short cut menu option to defining a definition query (that in itself a useful idea). Also having excluded everything with a single click there should be a mechanism for reinstating all features. The other issue I see with this idea is that it can only work with features that are symbolized by an attribute, What happens when you are looking at features that are not symbolized by a unique field then the only thing it could use is the ObjectID?
I think a way of implementing this is as a context menu from the identify window. You can already identify a feature and select it via a right click on the identify window, all it needs now is some sub-menu where it says filter all data for this attribute (the field you clicked on). At this point Arcmap is build a standard definition query behind the scenes. Now that would be really useful!
