extract a photo's objects and display over geographic map

Any photo has objects seperated at a distance, whose inter-distance human eyes can figure out. If we are able to extract the objects from an image, and find out using an approximation algorithm , the distance between those objects, We will be able to generate a real 3d model as well as a 2D map displaying the location of objects in the photo.
This will be really useful in quick decision making for defense analysts, police investigation, and similar more areas.
