Allow users to move fields up/down during creation of new Feature Class or Table
This would be really useful, at the moment to reorder fields during feature class to feature class you have to physically delete all the fields and manually add them back in again one at a time as new fields using the field Map. this is such a slow task if it's a large table and you need to get the new field properties exaclty the same as they used to be.The most annoying thing is there have been buttons adjacent to the field map in the feature class to feature class tool for reordering for years but they don't work!
Yes this sounds great!
The create feature class wizard added at ArcGIS Pro 2.2 allows you to alter the field order when creating a new feature class:
Kory Kramer can I ask what software/app you have used to create that GIF showing how easy it is to re-order columns?
Creating a GIF like that is 100 x better than taking a dozen screenshots to try to say the same thing!
Yeah, if a picture is worth a thousand words, how many words is a gif worth? Like 100,000, more?
ScreenToGif - Record your screen, edit and save as a Gif or video
Easy to use.
We used to use InstantDemo a lot for training documentation, but it's a commercial product and it's main output (shockwave flash) is being deprecated. It's become all but impossible to use it in a browser e.g. embedded into our intranet wiki.
So we're moving more towards these tools, ScreenToGIF is an excellent tool we're using more and more.
Honorable mentions: Camstudio, Ashampoo Snap, DonationCoder Easy Screen Recorder. Each has good application for a certain use, but ScreenToGIF pretty much delivers the best bang for buck overall in the neatest package.
Disclaimer: I am not affliated with any of the vendors of the products mentioned.
Is this exclusive to ArcGIS Pro 2.2 or will it be coming to ArcMap as well?
Unfortunately they're not adding any new things to ArcMap.
There are no plans to implement this functionality in ArcMap.
As we review Ideas, whether long-standing or new, and consider what is feasible for incorporation into the software, Ideas will generally be implemented in ArcGIS Pro. ArcGIS Pro is the focus for new development efforts as it is the future of the ArcGIS Desktop product.
Much to the chagrin of many Esri customers...
Here's two workarounds for ArcMap users since this functionality will never be added to the program. The ETGeowizards extension has tools to change field order for a new feature layer or copy fields in order to an existing one. You can also change field properties with another free tool These three are part of the free tools that come with the extension and like most of the tools, paid or free, typically are more convenient to use than those in ArcMap. Another option is to use QGIS 3.2's refactor field tool.
