I work for a mining company who use Microsoft Power BI for most analytics. We are a large user of Esri software also and have a lot of data hosted in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise. We use ArcGIS Maps for Power BI quite a bit to access our ArcGIS Online hosted data, but have come across limitations which are holding our users back somewhat.
A common workflow in mining is to extrude polygons based on an attribute for visualization purposes. This is offered in the Scene Viewer, but in our case we need to be able to do this in Power BI. Other mapping platforms have Power BI add-ins that offer this functionality, and we are struggling to keep our analysts away from these for this reason.
There are many examples of how we would use this, but a typical use case is to visualize stockpiles based on their volume in 3D. The data is simply 2D polygons with volume attributes. Such functionality would help us build a case for full adoption of ArcGIS Maps for Power BI.
