Many people spend many hours with ArcGIS Desktop each day. The white backgrounds (theme) can be very hard on the eyes over time. Could esri please provided a dark theme option? Much like Visual Studio, Pycharm, etc.
Darkish theme for PyScripter
This is offered in ArcGIS Pro. Go to project Options > General and set the theme to Dark
Thanks Kory! That looks nice! I did not know that--we do not use pro... is there any momentum to get this into the ArcGIS Desktop product line?
Forest - ArcGIS Pro is part of the ArcGIS Desktop product line. Though I'm not a product engineer meaning I don't make these decisions, I think it is highly unlikely that this would ever be considered for inclusion in ArcMap.
As we review Ideas, whether long-standing or new, and consider what is feasible for incorporation into the software, Ideas will generally be implemented in ArcGIS Pro. ArcGIS Pro is the focus for new development efforts as it is the future of the ArcGIS Desktop product.
I'd encourage you to start getting a feel for ArcGIS Pro (ArcGIS Pro quick-start tutorials—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop ) and let us know if there are pieces of your workflows where Pro doesn't meet your needs.
Okay... I was under the impression that Pro was not being developed as replacement for the classic ArcMap product. But it sounds like esri is thinking that Pro will ultimately replace ArcMap.
admins change this status its not already offered in arcmap/catalog only in PRO.
Sad to see the dark theme may never reach ArcGIS Desktop. I work with both Desktop and Pro. Pro has some catching up to do. I prefer ArcGIS Desktop for my work as a cadastral mapper; faster, more reliable, and access to all functions/tools. I sure do wish ESRI would release a dark theme for desktop though. MY EYES!
