Please add "Select Features on the Screen" tool to ArcGIS Pro. I use it extensively in Desktop. This would help me be a fan of Pro.
Seth Sobel Remember to up vote your idea!
Can you please elaborate on your request? Do you mean the 'Select By Screen Rectangle' tool behavior in ArcScene and ArcGlobe? (Per Selecting features in ArcScene—Help | ArcGIS Desktop )
If so, Pro has the basis of this already - that is, interactive selections are based on WYSIWYG (visible symbology) behavior. Note that we do not have the 'dragging direction gesture' support (for 'fully-within' and 'partially-within'), and we also don't have an interactive tool for selecting based on database geometry (though there's a GP tool for that).
Any info you can share is appreciated.
Nathan, my understanding of the request is this:
But Seth Sobel would have to confirm.
Confirming what Kory Kramer posted. The Select Features on Screen tool from the customize menu.
Thanks for swift response!
Info: this command was not added in Pro 2.1 (which is coming out soon), and isn't currently in our 2.2 plans... but we're still in the planning stage (hence this review of open equivalency requests).
Quick followup Q - do you use the tool primarily for many layers in the map at once, or do you more often set the selectable layers list down to "one or a few" layers first?
I'm asking because we've considered making this a feature-layer option (ie: a new "Select Visible" command in the layer's context menu - per below). This helps with the "one or two" layer case, but not the "whole map" case...
To be clear, the above design would work with multiple selected layers in the TOC. So you don;t need to do it once per layer, you just have to multi-select the ones you want first.
I work in critical infrastructure / emergency response, so I am not typically interested in what is in a specific political boundary or well-defined area. I just want a quick way to select what assets are in the "study region" that I am looking at. I would say I lean towards the "many assets on the screen at a time" rather than selecting specific ones, but not set one way or the other.
I think your proposed method of a multi-select and "select visible" would be very reasonable and helpful.
I would also be interested in this as an option. I used it a lot in Arc Desktop.
It is a really useful tool to select all features in current view - and more accurate than select by rectangle, as you get to the very edges of your display screen.
This was added at ArcGIS Pro 2.2.

Thank you! Now I just need to get my organization to implement the latest version. We are still stuck on Version 1.3!
