For integration with other systems, it would be nice that ArcGIS Online have support for webhooks in editing operations for layers, this is something that is increasingly beeing used lately and is very required.
If ArcGIS Online had webhooks, I could implement publish-subscribe architecture. For example, I could put in a webhook that would call an Azure Function, which would execute in a "serverless environment". Create a function in Azure triggered by a generic webhook | Microsoft Docs . Ideally there would be webhooks for all "outbound" interfaces, like IEditEvents.
This is a pretty common pattern for virtually any cloud system that includes events. A bit disappointed this hasn't been architected in yet.
Webhooks are implemented with ArcGIS Online Hosted Feature services at the June 2020 update. See this blog for a rundown of how to get started: Create a hosted feature service webhook. Thank you, and let me know any feedback or questions.
Hi Peter, thanks for sharing, however this blog link is marked as Protected and is requiring a password to view.
Hi Brittany, the author is editing it and it I expect it to be live within a few days. My fault on that - the documentation on webhooks is now live though, which has a similar information: Create (Feature Service)—ArcGIS REST API | ArcGIS for Developers
Hey Peter, I am trying to implement webhooks for a service hosted in ArcGIS Online I can't see any documentation on how to do that any help would be appreciated.
Hey Ben, here is the documentation on creating a webhook: Create (Feature Service)—ArcGIS REST API | ArcGIS for Developers the blog I linked above will be live later this week or next week as well, and that provides a step-by-step guide for how to set it up. Hope this helps, -Peter
