The Collector for ArcGIS is a very nice mobile app to collect data. However for utilities next to collecting data based on GPS, collecting data based on "dimensioned constructing" is equally important. Since data collection and entry is moving more and more from the back office to the field, these functions becomes more important in mobile apps.
For this process snapping is of importance, but also referencing topography in order to construct asset positions based on distance and direction. Very often this means alligned, parallel and perpendicular construction possibilities for determining the position of an asset, from f.i. a corner of a building. Ideally the dimensions should be placed in one go in accordance with these constructed segments.
