I'd like to see maplex expanded so an mxd authored using maplex opened and viewed by ArcEditor or ArcView without the maplex license will still displays the original maplex labeling. In my case specifically, if I use ArcInfo to build a template for other desktop users all of my labeling is reverted to standard labeling. This is a killer for map production, especially map books and parcel mapping.
@countygis your problem would not be a problem if they would just make Maplex standard. I just don't get it, why is this such a big deal. There isn't enough to it for it to need to be an extension and with the prices, I think it should be implemented for everyone.
This would be great for creating maps that have a block of map elements over a portion of the data frame. That way you wouldn't have to fix the half-street-name peeking out from behind the title block.
Alternative work around: 1. Create a spatial selection (use a shape or draw a polygon with select tool), intersect the area of your label definition, with the Parcel Fabric. 2. Create layer from selected features 3. Apply labeling to new layer Win. Profit.
