Create a check box to in the "Parcel Remainder" tool to have an option to create historic parcel or delete historic parcel.
In my opinion, the behavior of creating History parcels every time Parcel Remainder is used is at odds with the way many people actually use the tool to create geometries in the fabric. For instance, I often use Parcel Remainder in cases where I have to match adjacent geometry that is complex and/or I do not have recorded COGO information for. Along water bodies and along road right of ways are the two common examples that come to mind. In these cases, I will heads up digitize a polygon that overlaps the existing “good” geometry and then select these “good” geometries as input for the Parcel Remainder tool. The polygon that I digitized is only meant to be temporary for the Remainder tool to run against. Obviously I don’t want that temporary polygon stored in History so now I need to remember to delete it. In my experience, the technique just described is the predominant use case where I choose to use the Remainder tool. Not sure what others do. I really think that a toggle switch on the Parcel Remainder tool window that said ‘Create History Yes/No’ would please a lot of people and help them keep their History layer clean and free of temporary/junk polygons.
I do the same thing and rely on remembering to delete the erroneous historical parcel as well.
