Just as the title states, I think it would be a great value add to the Desktop core products if you could see python files in the contents window of ArcCatalog.  Not scripts in a toolbox, rather scripts just in a folder workspace.

You could then open/edit them in the Python window that's already built into the software.

If I have a python script or code snippet, I have to open the file in IDLE or another editor and copy/paste the script into the python window.  Unless I am missing something in the settings to see other files in the Contents window, having this functionality really just makes sense.

You can customize the Catalog window to see .py files, see the File Types under Customize/ArcCatalog Options menu.  Do this in ArcCatalog and ArcMap will see them too.

In the Python window in ArcMap, you can right-click/Load.. your script into the Python window.

And thanks for the tip, bruce_harold!
