This idea has been merged with Improve available default Map Layouts for Printing in ArcGIS Online.
Our organization recently started using ArcGIS Online (AGOL) for mapping of our utilities around our industrial area. We are doing this in order to provide all our employees with equal access to utility information via the AGOL Online Map Viewer.
However, some of my colleagues and our clients have the need to create printed maps detailing some of our utilities. It seems that when you go to print a map in the Online Map Viewer, it snips your display extent and adds it to a generic layout, but there is no functionality to display attribute information or attachments. And the layout of the printed maps from the Online Map Service leaves much to be desired. As it stands, the Print button in the map viewer is not very useful. It shows a pretty picture of the map service view extent, but there is a need to display more infomration if desired.
There should be a Print Layout Editor in the Online Map Viewer, where a user could change the title of the printed map, add leaders/north arrows, add text labels, display attribute information and perform other functions that might enhance the usefulness of the map. Perhaps similar to the functions in the ArcMap layout view?
Does anyone else agree that this functionality should be added?
