"I’ve been taking pictures since I was a kid. In the 1990s I had the good fortune to spend a few years in Russia, and several of my photos from that time have been published in calendars, magazines (most notably Popular Science), books, and other media. I received an MS in Forestry in 1994 and went on to spend 20 years as a field biologist, during which I grew to love plant photography, and plants remain my most frequent subject. I used GIS in my work as a biologist, and when the time came for a career change I earned an MGIS from the University of Washington, graduating in 2015. I currently work as a GIS specialist for WEST Consultants, Inc., a small water resources consulting firm in Bellevue, Washington. SCGIS encompasses the entire span of my career and professional interests, from international conservation to science to GIS, and it was a bonus to have the opportunity to add photography to the mix at the conference in July."
